Air Fryer Plastic Smell

Bought our first air fryer, and really like how it cooks. The only issue is the horrible plastic smell. Bought the Instant Pot 6-1 air fryer. I've cooked in it a couple of times, used vinegar/lime juice in it, and even just ran it outside yesterday at 400 for 30 min sessions a couple of times. Still stinks. I'm going to send it back. Any of you have experience with one that doesn't smell like this?

Probably just the fan motor.

you're supposed to take the meat out of the wrapper

I started to assume I was just going crazy for thinking ours did
It doesn’t seem to transfer to the food, but it definitely makes things less appetizing (similarly to when I brown ground beef). We don’t use ours often, but may look at getting a different brand.

I read about folks complaining of this, and it turned out for some there was a piece of the packaging left inside the unit. Check inside the cooking area carefully with a flashlight, just to make sure.
But some have the smell even when all packaging and protective film is removed. It seems to go away for most after running empty on high heat. Some wash the cook basket well with soap/water, then put a vinegar/lemon juice mix in it and cook a few minutes. Googling will reveal many experiences/tips.
I have the Instant Pot Vortex 6-qt and have not had the problem, but it does seem to be a random issue with many air fryers of all brands.
