That wiki article is full of flaws and confusions. It references Morganza when it should be ORCS

If the scouring and erosion of Morganza occurred in 2008.... how could it have been used in subsequent years for flooding? It's only been three years. Something isn't clicking.

Have no clue, all this shite is Greek to me, I don't understand engineering or structures or shite like that.

So if there was erosion in 2008, did we do anything to beef it up?
Posted on 5/10/11 at 12:08 am to trilltiger
So basically if the morganza fails then major refineries will shut down permanently.
Posted on 5/10/11 at 12:10 am to trilltiger
IDK. But I seriously doubt they would jeopardize the course of the river, if there was any possible KNOWN failure at Morganza or ORCS, by opening Morganza Spillway
Posted on 5/10/11 at 12:11 am to ike221
Yeah you can't jeopardize the course of the river. I'd rather deal with water in b.r..

Yes, I read somewhere while Googling, that the natural flow of the river would have eventually combined the Atchafayla and MS River, but that's why the Old River Control was built, the article also stated that if it were to take the natural path, then it would severely digress coastal erosion in LA.
This is the part I was talking about though.
"Studies by the Army Corps of Engineers after the test determined that once opened, it would likely never close again, and could be ripped from its footings, allowing the Mississippi River to jump its banks and flow primarily through the Atchafalaya Basin."
So what someone put on there is that they think the Morganza will have major problems once it's opened up. I guess we'll see on Saturday.

That's why I said to take it FWIW. Someone is persistent though because it keeps getting deleted then put back.

Holy crap that site is insane. They have a thread just like the math equation on we had here. No doubt an Ot'er.
I can't wait to see how the Morganza reacts with all that water flowing through since it's the first time in 38 years it's had this much pressure put on it.

The erosion in 2008 was the potato levee which is designed to overtop to fill the forebay near the spillway. It's designed to do so and has nothing to do with the function of the gates itself.
For every bit of reliable info in this thread, there are four posts of nonsense.

The thread that got me was the 9/11 claiming there were no planes.
