this is a tragic time for the people in the path of the morganza spillway being opened, but were they aware that this was a possibility when they built there?

I don't know much about it either, but they definitely were aware it was a possibility. As a matter of fact, many of them have had families in the area for generations, and remember floods or stories from their families. The thing is these people love their way of life and they don't want to leave.

I saw on WAFB today they said all of these residents get an annual letter for the ACOE reminding them of this possibility.

Germans times five. Most of the homes there are camps, second homes for people in Lafayette and the surrounding area. Everybody knows it might flood.

that and orginal land owners have been compesnetated fairly for this years ago. Its sad, but they get a annual warning about this.
