Is there a reason why the critera for opening the Morganza based on river speed instead of the height of the river? Just seems they have a projected crest date pretty well set yet they seem to go back and forth on the speed.

Just read an interesting fact. A flow rate of 1.5 million cubic feet per minute is enough water to fill the Superbowl in 50 seconds.

They are measuring it that way because that is how they respond. When the river is 61 feet at RR Landing, how many bays do you open to drop it? No way to easily calculate it. But it the river is flowing at 1.6 million, and I know that the downriver levees can only handle 1.5, I know that I will have to open exactly ten bays.
