That's the photo somebody's "buddy" took and posted on the rant a few days ago (if you need a cleaner source pic)...
But I'm thinking this is actually the part of the image that will be removed...

+1 on your best idea yet.
Now for the hard part. It's time you move on to better farks. Most of your ideas have been very good. But it's time to execute some other tools on there.
1. Try out the clone stamp tool. The color blots are ?????
2. Try to clean up the edges on items that you cut out.
3. Try out the smudge tool--for a better "feel".
All in all nothing to hard to do with a little practice.
I don't want to discourage you by any means, I like what you do. I just want you to get better. If you have any questions about how to do anything, ask away. I will come here to answer to best that I can and as will others.
For the edit: Your best was "The sky is falling" one, this is a close 2nd.
