If you have two images, one of let's say a state, and you've got it separated with no background so it is just the black outlined state shape with white fill.
And you have another image of a stadium and you want to use the state image shape to cookie cut the stadium image so that the new statdium image's border is that of the state.
Kinda like NC Tigah's sig.
How do you go about doing that? Thanks for the replies.
Also, if anyone knows of good free basic photoshop CS3 tutorial, please let me know. I know there are tons on the web, but some are just too lengthy and in depth. I can usually figure stuff out using help if I just know how the terminology of what I'm trying to do.
Thanks guys.

You can save the stadium image as a pattern and then do a pattern
With the stadium image:
Edit>Define Pattern
With the state image:
fx(under the layers template at the bottom right)>pattern overlay
(you may need to duplicate the layer or convert to smart object in order to be able to use the fx)

Hey got one more for ya, I managed to get the state shape thing done, but now what type of file do I need to save it as so when I post it on the web it doesn't put the white square border around it. When I save it as a jpeg it does, so do I use like a png?
Nevermind

there's a much easier way to do what you wanted btw:
use the magic wand tool and click on your state shape. There should be an outline around it now. Then make sure the layer with your stadium picture is now selected. At the bottom of the layers panel, you should see a button that looks like a rectangle with a circle in the middle of it. It's the 'quick mask' button. Click that, and your done!
ETA: the good thing about that, aside from it being faster, is your picture is not lost. You can still edit the mask and reveal or cover up more parts of the picture with out deleting that data.

You can place the layer of the stadium on top of the layer of the state, then, in the layers pallet, right click on the layer of the stadium and select Create Clipping Mask
You can then move around the layer of the stadium to fit inside the layer of the state the way you like the best

Yeah, sorry. I was just trying to give you something to work with. I haven't come close to mastering photoshop or even knowing the in's and out's.

Appears to have been answered for you.
Just FYI, my software isn't quite as sophisticated as PS.
Here's how I do these image combo's.
Louisiana and Tiger.
(1) Capture your sources --- Louisiana and Tiger in this case.
(2) Create mask outline of the image shape you want (Shape of Louisiana)
(3) Superimpose mask over fill image
(4) Render the combination
(5) Select the mask color and delete it
(6) Add outline to resulting image
(7) Save as GIF if transparent background is desired.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the answers.
I think that's that way I've seen one of my friends do it before. But it's awhile.
