Photo restoration question (update: pic attached)

I just found a photo of my uncle online in Vietnam that was taken 2 days before he was killed in 1967. None of my family has seen this pic before. It's of pretty good quality already. Can a photographer take something as simple as a jpg file and enhance it to make it look like an actual photograph? I'm curious because I'd like to get it printed out and fixed up professionally if possible. I figure I could get some advice from some of the master farkers here.

Sure, there are plenty of enhancements that can be made to a photo--noise reduction, color boosts, sharpening, smoothing, etc. I have a really good PS plug-in by OnOne, called Phototools that does all kinds of enhancements, treatments and effects.
When you say you want to make it look like an actual photograph, what exactly do you mean? Adding a white border, or something like that?
I'd be glad to fool around with it and do some enhancements to it, if you'd like?

well, it's a smaller photo that i'd like to make into a 5x7 without it getting too pixelated when it comes time to print it.

how did you find it online? If it was in someone's photo album, or in some publication, why don't you contact them about a copy of the original? This sound like a picture that would mean a lot, and be well worth the extra trouble to get the best copy that you can.

It def means a lot. I emailed the guy about it this morning, but haven't heard back yet. I'm hoping he gets back with me. If not, I'll just have to have it restored.

Here you go. Here ALWAYS had that guitar with him in his spare time, from what I've been told. The quality of the photo is actually really good already. I think it'll just be hard to stretch it into a 5x7.

I was watching Forrest Gump (around the Vietnam part), believe it or not, and the thought popped into my head to google my uncle's name. It came up on this web site this one guy had dedicated to the Alpha Company - 1967. So I clicked and I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it. There was also a very nice write up from one of the guys in the Company about him and also about his death since he had witnessed it and had befriended my uncle when they had gotten there. I could not believe it. I'm still in shock.

Not sure what you mean by that but I sharpened it up for you and did some color adj. BigEasy could probably make it perfect though.

Oh man, that's a lot better! Looks very very good! You guys are ridiculously good at this. I'm going to find a good printer somewhere and get this to my grandparents asap. they're gonna love this. xBIGxEASYx, you always come through!

My son's company does photo restoration..I'll email him the photo...if you ever get a better copy it would help
