I know gimp is the best free one out there.

But I'm looking for a good free one for a 10 year old girl. Something user friendly and fun/easy to learn, etc. Doesn't have to have amazing abilities, just be easy to use.

Any suggestions?

Paint is always a great starter... trust me I started in paint and I was 35. If you have Microsoft office... Powerpoint works wonders beyond what you would think... and easy to use and figure out the few lil secrets....
also here is a link to... simple altern...

You might also try Paint.NET - I have no experience with it but it gets good reviews. (link is to CNET download/review page)

I 2nd paint.net. I use it all the time.

I could see a kid using it and then adding add-ons as they get better at it. The add-ons/plug-ins are what makes Paint.Net one of the best. I use it for work and produce ads that we publish in international magazines.
