Actually he didn't.

I'm willing to offer my last round pick for anyone's 1st rounder.
Also, no draft penalties on keepers.
But I'd be all for doing it with a budget. I'm in one league where dollar amounts are assigned by round, so a 1st = $16, 2 = $15, 3 = $14, etc. FAs are $1 Then you get a $20 budget (we only had 2 keepers). I think something like that would be cool.

I started the post before your edit

I really don't know why I would put it the way I did, but I obviously did say that.
My favorite form of keepers is a fantasy budget, and we decide on a source (website, magazine, whatever) that gives prices for all the players, and you can keep as many or as few as you want within that budget.
No draft penalties, nothing else.
The other way I've done it is you lose the round of where the player was taken the previous year. Then you have to account for all the variables (if a player was drafted, dropped and picked up by another team, if a player was drafted and traded, if a player was drafted, dropped and picked up by the same team, if a player was a WW pick-up).
Anywho, I really don't know why I said what I said, because I don't agree with that (and can't imagine ever agreeing with it).
I THINK what I was trying to say is that I don't care if we enforce people to keep three or nor, but I really am not sure what I meant.
I'm not trying to be a malcontent. I haven't complained about the baseball rules or anything else, really. I just didn't understand the logic of these keeper rules.
eta: I do think it's nice to reward managers for thrifty draft picks and pickups. Not FOREVER, but at least a year or two. In this system, there is no reward for someone scooping up Cam or Victor Cruz or whoever else wasn't taken (or taken late) and ended up being a stud.

On a serious note, we need to vote on keeper rules.
I do tend to lean with Dan and okie about their should be a penalty.
I know. My fault for not reading, but I was under the impression this would be the case.
Of course, my team sucks so bad, that with these keeper rules in place, I'm going to suck for a really long time now.
If there were "penalties" for keepers, I'd actually have a shot this year at being somewhat competitive. Oh well. It's just $20.

Seriously, it's pretty crazy to think about changing this a year later. If I would have known this, I would have drafted differently last year.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 9:23 am to RollDatRoll
Yeah if we have a vote, it would need to be for next years rules.
I still think the best way to go is to only allow a player to be kept for 3 years.
And that could be implemented starting this year because that's a rule that doesn't change your strategy in drafting for year 1.

I'm in this exact same boat verbatim.

That's the whole point of the rules is to keep league more equal. If a team sucks for 2+ years chances are that owner will stop checking/giving a shite. Not what you want.

Yeah we at least need to do the 3 year limit rule and then look at reworking the other rules after the season is over.

That's when a team gets the boot and you find a new owner.
And trust me, there will always be somebody on here that will take over a team no matter how bad it is.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 9:59 am to SwampDonks
You may be cool with that but I'm not at all. Best leagues are where same guys are apart of it year in/year out.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 10:00 am to okietiger
That just isn't realistic.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 10:03 am to SwampDonks
No? Dan's been in a league with the same guys for like 7 years now. There is almost zero turnover and it's 12 teams.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 10:05 am to okietiger
Once we head into this draft the rules are pretty much set.
Posted on 8/17/12 at 10:06 am to okietiger
That is an outlier then.
And I bet there has been at least one change over those 7 years.

I'll still be a sport and take my licks, even though it will suck for me for the next two years, at least. My keepers are 3WRs. LOL. I'm fricked. There will be nothing decent for me to draft at other spots.
I'll come out and admit it:
I'm in four leagues, total. This league is by far my cheapest buy in. I used this league as an experiment last year, not realizing what the rules were long term. Now I'm screwed. I'm sure many here were LOLing at me for taking guys like Mendenhall in a PPR league, but I had a reason for it (long story). So, I have only myself to blame for trying something different, then getting screwed by not reading the rules. Oh well.

We've had like 2 new owners every year.
I generally agree with you, it's hard to keep people committed.
I am in a fantasy baseball league that's had about the same 7 guys since 1987. Pretty wild. Also stand a chance to win it two times in a row.
