What's being missed here as well is that LE now has the #1 overall pick.

we'll have to see where he lands, but i think he can be a viable option for at least 1 more year.

Whoa. I guess in the position you are in, it's understandable. frick dude, you could have done the 1 and 5 for Harper and Arencibia and gotten Happ, Walker, and Alonso for the 3.

Would have been a much better deal, imo.
Well, unless LE wouldn't have accepted that. Can't see why he wouldn't though.

I wanted a 1st and 3rd for Harper as it was by himself. Because it was Honk, I gave in a little.

i was set on keeping him like I said, and at the deadline next season pawned him off for a nice coup if i couldnt get the draft picks i wanted this offseason.

on the other hand, with Honk;s 2-3 year plan, this is a perfect trade for him. I also think it is important that in this 1st year he dictates what players he adds to his team, and not let the draft dictate the main framework of his team. Cause lets face it, he had 6-7 non keeper worthy players before tonight. Its better to get what you like now and not gamble and hope those players are in the draft

ETA; thats how i would do it at least.

Ah, ok.

A little high for someone that is two years away, at least, but ok.

Totally agree. Honk did well.

to each his own. Im positive i could have sold him off for more either this offseason or near the deadline this upcoming season.

much lesser thought-of prospects have been kept for 2 years or so.

Harper is better than Alonso is right now, who has only really shown marginal power.

besides, unless he moves to the OF, he has Votto ahead of him who isnt going anywhere.

Harper is definitely better than Alonso. Nobody would think otherwise.

I don't think Alonso ever starts for the Reds. He will start in AAA to hopefully boost his trade value, and then get shipped before the deadline this year for a pressing need (assuming the Reds are in contention). He's only 23, btw. Plenty of time for the true power to show up.

Oh, and I turned you from "it's way too early to be picking draft slots" to dealing Bryce Harper for the #1 overall pick in two days flat.

BOW.
