I don't even see how he's rebuilding. He plans on getting picks...to take closers next year? Instead of adding prospects he picked guys like Manny and Sheff. Who is he going to keep when he trades these closers?

I don't see any type of plan that works.

Thx Les, completely fair breakdown. think I have some trade pieces in 2 closers & 2 closers in waiting. That strategy seemed to work well last year. I think I'll be ready to compete next year, this year will just be fun watching my guys grow up.

thing is that RPs rarely carry of trade value of other keeper-level players

usually only means draft picks

unless he is thinking about bulking up picks to get some future keepers, this could really be a failed strategy

that being said, dude has pulled more shite out his arse in this league than richard gere at a pet store

#13 Boo

Boo's starting lineup will be OK for the most part. He has Pujols, Hamilton and Rickie Weeks, and then a bunch of mid level guys to fill out his starters. Mixed in that 2nd group are guys like Jesus Montero and Starlin, who if they take the next step, so will his team. Could use a big rebound year from Werth. Lorezno Cain, Im not buying the hype yet. He's been a disappointment in MLB service time. Boo's bench is worthless, with the only player seeing time this year Russell Martin & Brantley, neither who are overly talented.

His pitching is lead by Wainwright, Pineda, Masterson, Cueto and BMac. I think this is a really solid group if Wainwright stays healthy and Pineda can adjust to the AL east. He features on closer in Marmol who can blow a whole teams worth of categories. As of now I see his pitching middle of the pack, will compete with most teams week to week.

Overall this team has some upside. It will take big years from Jesus, Cain, Werth, and Fresse to pair up with his stud hitters. I think you can count on 2-3 of these guys to really play well. Boo should have an exciting year watching these guys play. This team is on the upswing.

it's a mess, he just has more proven MLB players than Honk at this point. If the 2 played today, mccain would get him in most hiting categories, and Honk would prob take most pitching categories. Kind of a wash. By the end of the year Honk will prob have an overall better team

Boo's bench is worthless
pretty much for this season

best case he can finish about 7th

worst case, considering possible injuries to hamilton and/or weeks, could see him down around 12-13

#12 Goodfellas

I know this isnt the popular choice, but hear me out. This is about where the contenders start to come into play. I think just about every team below this line should compete for playoff spots. Earl has some really talented hitters. Santana, Hosmer, Lawrie, Belt, Moustakas. As I said earlier in the offseason, I think it would take just about all of them to really take a huge step to make him a playoff team. Could it happen? Sure. But IMO it is not likely. Outside of Santana, none of these guys have really had a season that tells me "this guy will be a stud this year". Now that doesn't mean they cant put together a good season. But Im talking about a complete season here. I think a few of them will, but he needs all of them. However by next year, I think this is a team we will be talking about easily in the top 6.

The pitching isn't as great. Matt Moore is unproven but I think he'll be a stud. But 2-4 he is leaning on Daniel Hudson, Derek Holland and Juan Nicasio. Potentially a good staff, but all these guys have been up and down. Kimbrel and Storen are stud closers. May have the best pair on any competing team in the league.

Overall, like i said, he could very well compete down to the wire. I think his youth will still be against him this year. Also has a weak hitting bench and a lack of stud arms. But his team is very pretty on paper.
