You're returning 4 players who were top 6 or better at their position last season.

Realmuto has a chance to be top 10 C, at least.

Springer could be a top 10 OF.

The rest just needs to fall into place. Lamb is a hot sleeper pick.

You have 4 serviceable SP, RP are just ok.

You are right there with the other teams I looked at. One more stud to go with Kuechel and youll be cooking

That isn't entirely true. I finished top 3 overall in 3 out of the 6 pitching categories last season, I believe (S+H, ERA, Whip). Would probably have been top-5 in another category too, k/9, if I didn't lose multiple SPs before the season started.

I basically ran out Odorizzi, Jon Niese and Dan Haren all season long and used spot starts if I felt like I needed another start for the IP minimum. Got lucky and picked up Karns about half way through the year, so was able to use him for a couple of months too.

So running out an SP base of Odorizzi, Niese , Haren and Karns with a very good RP crew had me competing in pitching every week. Point is, you can compete in pitching with strong RP considering 4 out of the 6 categories are ratio categories.

edit: it is definitely safer and a bonus to have 4/5 solid SP. Just not 100% needed to win pitching each week.

Standings say otherwise. My team was beat up all last year. When I was at full strength, I either swept teams or only lost 1 or 2 categories.

Yeh I dont necessarily agree either.

Finished maybe five games out of second with Wacha, Gio and shields as my top 3 SP the majority of the year.

Made a run to the finals after adding Lackey and Lynn

I don't see where they are anymore, but I thought I was bottom 25% in the Redd rankings.

I'm hoping for Severino to be this guy. And Quintana is a great pitcher for this format, imo. Dude only had 9 Ws last season, but 25 QS.

My top 3 were Arrietta, Chen, and Zimmerman. With Fiers and Leake behind them and I finished 2nd in reg season.

Eta: anyone have a 2nd baseman they want to get rid of?

I've got some utility guys that would fit in nicely for you at 2nd. Come get the dreamy Brock Holt or MarGo.

If you want to beat the best teams for a championship, it is true. Competing in the reg season is a different story. You have 20 teams and solid SP is limited, there has to be somewhere to separate the good from the elite. Most have decent hitting and anyone can build a good bullpen.

Just look at the championship games

Chat had 6 top 55 SPs in a 20 team league

7. Price
18. Syndergaard
19. Tanaka
21. Salazar
46. Tomlin
55. Hendrick

MWG - not as strong, but also lost to Chat

15. Lackey
37. Wacha
43. Lynn
58. Shields
91. Gio

Redd and OMT had 5 good starters, too

These were ALL top 50 SPs last year, fwiw

I hate to even be giving this info out, but pitching is what will win this league

I guess. It just felt like my pitching was garbage outside of Arrietta.

I'm under the assumption you are saying you need top pitching, correct?

Lackey was strong for me. I liked it. Lynn was horrible the final month.

I think you can get by with average starters -- Wacha, Lackey, Lynn, Gio and Shields. Average, no?
