Probably because it is a 20 team league and 4th is pretty damn good in this league.

Makes me wonder why fourth place in playoffs gets paid out

A typical league, from 12 teams to 16 or whatever, pays out regular season champ and the top 3 playoff finishes. Those leagues typically only take 6 playoff teams, so the top two seeds get rewarded with a bye week.

Since we have 20 teams putting up money instead of 16, and 8 make the playoffs, we added a little more to the regular season champ's pot, paid out a small amount to the second seed since they won't be rewarded with a bye week, and added a 4th place payout.

ETA: Maybe we can vote on going to rotisserie scoring next season.

Yeh. I know the argument.

I just don’t agree.

I think your rating machine doesn't properly value pitching or pitching strategy in this league.

3.66 MWG
4.33 Chat
6.00 Gyno
6.33 Boo
7.66 Redd
8.33 OMT
8.33 Lester
9.00 DJ
9.00 Papz
9.50 T&P
10.3 Swamie
10.6 RDR
11.3 Rondo
12.3 CQQ
13.3 Deebz
14.0 Knat
14.0 TTT
15.3 Cwill
16.3 Barry
17.0 Drunken Clams
17.0 Earl

Well that certainly looks like crap. However I did start a rebuild before the deadline in season 1 and completely punted season 2 (bottom feeder). Finished 10th in the only full season I tried to be competitive in so far. That makes me an average owner in my book and I am perfectly fine with that.

Shitstains

And I'm shocking the league this year! Bird is going off for 40 bombs and Mazara hits his potential of 30! Believe! My amazing team building this offseason will carry me all the way to 9th place! BOOM!

I like your pitching strategy but it's going to be hard to be ranked higher than middle of the pack when you're punting two categories (IMO of course)

My pitching ranking suffers because I have no relievers, which means I punt sv+hd and k/9. And I have serviceable, but not great, SP.

What do you want to bet that I finish better than 12th?

Not a fricking thing. A team like yours is going to sell out to get that playoff spot because your window is fast as frick closing.

You can do it and have top 10 overall pitching success but you need 3-4 beast closers at minimum, a handful of solid ratio RPs, and then 3-4 SPs that you can play matchups with each week to help get you 15 IP or so. They can even be #4 or 5 type pitchers, but you need to be able to avoid the blow up games as much as possible (obviously).

I finished 9th overall in pitching in the first season doing this. And I dropped to 9th after trading most of my RPs before the deadline - I was hovering near top 5 most of the season.

Finished 17th in IP and 19th in QS. Even finished middle of the pack in k/9 but that dropped to middle of the pack after trades.

The four SPs I used (Odorizzi, Niese, Dan Haren, Karns) all finished sub 4 ERA for me that year. Niese & Haren had sub 6 K/9s . But they didnt blow up my era which was all that I needed.

My RPs were:
chapman - 1.63 ERA 33 Saves, 15.7 K/9
melancon - 2.23 era, 52 S+H
grilli - 2.9 ERA 24 saves, 12 k/9 (got hurt mid season)
Holland - 32 saves 10 k/9
Will Harris - 1.9 era
Benoit - 2.34 era - 30 saves
Sam Dyson - 2.63 era - 23 Saves

Looking at Cwills team, I agree with most of yall that he doesnt have the legit closers to pull off a top 10 pitching staff. But if his offense can carry him, we wont need to win but 2-3 pitching categories most weeks which i think he can do if his RPs hit fantrax projections. But he has to hit the IP limit which is another issue

edit: those RP stats are season long stats. I traded melancon & holland before the deadline and lost grilli for the season sometime in the middle of the year. So my team didnt necessarily get all of those stats. Just showing how on my RP staff was that entire year

I definitely could, as long as I don't wait too long.
