New York Mets first baseman Dominic Smith was originally in the team’s lineup for their opening game of spring training, but has been scratched and replaced by Peter Alonso. No news yet as to why Smith was scratched. Hopefully, it’s nothing and Smith will be in the lineup next time out. Despite only getting the call to the Majors last August, Smith finds himself at a very early-career crossroads. General manager Sandy Alderson was very vocal with his disappoint for Smith’s debut last year, and signed Adrian Gonzalez this winter. On the other side of the coin, Alonso is arguably turning into a better prospect than Smith ever was, and could be giving him a run for his money as the Amazins' first baseman of the future. Stay turned here for more information as it comes in.

No of course not

Everyone has access to email though. You get notified via email, you make adjustment. Takes 5 seconds. There is no excuse

Gotta draw the damn line somewhere. We can throw out these stupid what ifs all day. What if I decide to go to mars?

This rule is specifically for the offseason. During the season, the penalty for not making your lineup legal is loss of stats for the day.

How do we handle that?

Don't make a trade hours before going offshore. You have to draw the line

I think he means you can't make any moves that aren't taking you in the right direction.

Yeah, if MWG trades and ends up with 12 minors only guys, he should chill on the prospect roulette until he is back down to 11.

What if we had a poll with these two options, and the one with the most votes wins:

Option 1:
During the offseason, when a trade results in a team having an illegal roster, the owner of said team must make the roster legal within 24 hours of deal being accepted. No trading will be allowed by that team until then. Failure to make the roster legal will result in a $25.00 fine for each 24 hour period that passes with an illegal roster.

Option 2:
During the offseason, when a trade results in a team having an illegal roster, the owner of said team must make the roster legal within 24 hours of deal being accepted. Owner may make additional trades to get the roster legal, provided that it is legal within 24 hours of the initial trade. Failure to make the roster legal will result in a $25.00 fine for each 24 hour period that passes with an illegal roster.

Vote for option 2.

As for someone going offshore or the such, I think if someone states in the trade notes how they intend to make their lineup legal, then no penalty (and a commish can make the move) unless they do something dumb like make another move before getting their lineup legal.

I think it's sad that there's actually a lengthy conversation about this.

You make a trade and your roster is illegal, just fix your shite. What's so hard about finding a minute or two during one's day to fix the issue?

Also, I don't like the idea of a transaction lock penalty because it could (slight chance) benefit one of the other 19 teams. That would make more sense with rotisserie scoring.

I would say to the overall playoff champ.

Other option is to the next year's league fee?

Treat payment of said fine the same as bottom feeder penalties. Pretty sure that can all be done through Fantrax, but I can't double check that right now.

I like the idea of it going to help pay next year's website fee. Everyone benefits in that scenario.

I'm looking for a 2019 1st round pick.

If anyone needs a stopgap/insurance at 1B/3B, I have Hanley & Beltre.
