The Cubs may lean heavily on Happ in a utility role to reduce the workload of Ben Zobrist this season, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis:A clear-cut plan for how the playing time will be divided between second base and the three outfield spots has not be revealed, but Happ is expected to move around often as he can spell Kyle Schwarber or Jason Heyward against lefties, handle center field against tough righties when Albert Almora sits, and fill in for Javier Baez at the keystone if desired. Nevertheless, it sounds like he's positioned to at least match the 413 plate appearances he racked up last season, and it's worth noting that Zobrist nearly reached 500 plate appearances a year ago, a feat that seems highly unlikely in 2018.

Love that trade for CQQ

ETA: it makes sense for MWG, too.

MWG is really good at turning waiver wire fodder and a razzball write-up into useful pieces

maybe, but i doubt anyone was knocking down CQQ's door to acquire Merrifield. Most are in the "that shite was a fluke" boat.

MWG has the resources to take the chance that it wasnt, though.

I mean, it's not like he got a haul in return. I guess it depends on your thoughts on Merrifield and if he can reproduce his 2017 numbers or regress.

CQQ could have traded Merrifield and Molina for Grandal and Chavis and I would have called it a good deal for him.

Tbh grandal may end up being more valuable to wisey than the two he got

Grandal working more on the launch angle w supposed success and now Barnes has an elbow

Yap. Nervous about moving him. I enjoyed reading that about him. Still some concerns with pop ups and babip. But the launch angle definitely intriguing. You gotta give something to get something.

I’m going to believe in Whit. Some things I like about him.

Plus Whitty gives me flexibility — 2B/OF to go with Miller 1B/2B and Becky 2B/3B/SS

its never really been determined, but i had a feeling it was gonna be brought up when cqq didnt immediately make drops after the trade went through.

its easy to deal with in the regular season, because it would mean no stats.

Im open to suggestions on how to handle it going forward if we want to get it in the rulebook.
