Sounds good
Wasn’t ruling it out for this year, was just curious what you were thinking

I think the draft picks are set for this year.
That’s a slippery slope to mess with.
I just never noticed that the picks didn’t reset in rounds 2-4 until I was about to send a trade proposal to G$ last night.

I say we discuss, then poll. No need to drag it out. I don't really care either way.
Posted on 4/6/18 at 12:10 pm to TthomasJR
I will poll it
Teams in the lottery are in the lottery bc they finished at the bottom. I don’t think there is much impact here with either method but I’m willing to discuss

Do we do this lottery system differently from how TDBA is done? I finished tied for the worst record and drew the 5 th pick. I thought I’d be locked into no worse than the 3rd pick? It is what it is. Just wondering.
I’m in favor of Wisey”s suggestion.

You’re in both leagues, couldn’t you cross reference the lotto system for both to see if they’re the same? I don’t know what the TDBA lotto format is.
quote:
LOTTERY
-- Lottery - each of the 7 non playoff teams will be entered into a lottery based upon their finish in the regular season. 14th place will receive 10 ping pong balls, 13th will receive 9, 12th will receive 8 and so forth. This will determine the first 7 picks in the rookie draft. Subsequent picks will be decided on regular season finish of the playoff teams - 7th place will assume the 8th pick overall, 6th will assume the 9th pick and so on.

Lottery Chances of acquiring the first pick
Gyno 4/49 = 8.16%
DirtDawgs 5/49 = 10.20%
Ttown 6/49 = 12.24%
MWG 7/49 = 14.29%
Peazy 8/49 = 16.33%
LE 9/49 = 18.37%
G$ 10/49 = 20.41%

Pick 1:
Gyno (had 4 balls)
Pick 2:
TTown (had 6 balls)

Poll is posted
Only 7 people voted on the last one that’s been up for months, which was about the add/drops in offseason

Is that vote for this years draft or future drafts?

Just checked the thread for the first time in a while.
While we are on the subject, I had been wanting to bring up the idea of adjusting the odds for the lottery for future years. How this last lottery fell out very close to literally every true non-playoff team wound up with a worse pick than every fringe non-playoff team with LE being one pick away from it being literally all the worst teams ending up with worse picks. While I understand and agree that we should have a lottery to discourage tanking, for the sake of parity having a worse record shouldn't be meaningless which is what these results suggest. They are almost the opposite of the kind of results that I was expecting. Maybe it was just a low chance occurrence happening, but if this is what we can expect regularly then I think it will be bad for the league.
As for a solution, I'm not sure, but I think we should experiment with what the results of what some different odds look like before making a decision.
EDIT: Also, in favor of wisey's suggestion, but I don't see the poll up anymore.

Poll is showing up for me
I voted to leave as is. After I thought about it no type of league resets the order after round 1. What’s the point of having a lottery? Either use a lottery draft order or an inverse of final standings. If a bad team won the lottery no one would say anything
I would listen to proposals on revising the odds
Posted on 4/10/18 at 8:59 pm to GynoSandberg
Cool. Found the poll. Thanks.
My first thought for a revision was to make some sort of tiered schedule.
e.g.
14th: 10/37 = 27%
13th: 8/37 = 21.6%
12th: 7/37 = 18.9%
11th: 5/37 = 13.5%
10th: 4/37 = 10.8%
9th: 2/37 = 5.4%
8th: 1/37 = 2.7%
I would like to see some other suggestions though and see what some example results would look like. I don't know how yall run something like that to test results. I think it was a mistake to just agree to the odds last year with out a real idea of what it would look like in reality, from a personal perspective. I would rather not make the mistake of not thinking something through enough again.
I guess in my mind I think that you should see the occasional team from the first half of the lottery wind up in the back and vice versa and maybe some mixing within the two halfs, but there should still be some discernible pattern of the worse teams tending towards the top and better towards the bottom.

The current lottery was pulled from the basketball dynasty league, where a few people are members of both leagues. The system was never a problem, so we ran with it. Personally I believe it will play out and serve its intended purpose and likely even itself out. I’m just not sure I like further incentivizing tanking. There is a fine line there and it is called a lotto for a reason, afterall
Keep in mind the nba lotto has been in existentence for 32 years and the worst team has only won it 6 times (25% chance of the 1st pick)
Also I’m not sure I buy that a top pick is needed to vastly improve a team. This isn’t a 32 team NFL draft. We have 14 teams and only draft offensive skill players for fantasy purposes. The difference between slots isn’t huge imo
I’m not against increasing odds but I think a max of 25% chance for 1st pick for the worst team suffices. This all seems a bit reactionary but if we can get the whole league involved in a ruling that would be great. Will probably have to wait until draft time when everyone is paying attention

Maybe it is being reactionary. Like I said maybe just a relatively very low possibility event occurred. I just don't like the pattern of almost all the better teams having better picks than almost all of the worse teams. That's the way that it looks to my eyeball test at least.
I agree that it isn't the end of the world. There's still a lot of randomness in which players will work out, but it isn't meaningless.
At the least it's something to talk about, and I hope to see other opinions. I really have no idea where to start with the actual numbers. Maybe something like modeling it after the NBA lotto is the way to go. Even that looks like a pretty big shake up from what we currently have.

Sony Michel the #2 overall pick now?
Posted on 4/27/18 at 9:46 am to Peazey
If anything, Michels value dropped
If you are in the 1.04 / 1.05 range and hoped to get a solid RB, I would be upset. Penny and Michel drop.
Guice and Chubb need to end up in ideal spots. Barkley ended up in a great spot
I wouldn’t be shocked to see D.J. Moore go in that pick 5 spot now

Nah.
Still think I like Guice if he lands with Colts or Buccs
I do like Michel as a player. Explosive. Don't like him going to the pats though
