without seeing the draft pool, it looks pretty run of the mill.

Surprised Tanaka didn't go first. Bryant before Abreu.

I would have taken Abreu first.

I would have taken Abreu simply because my current 1B is Napoli.

1st Round:

quote:

1 Geaux - Jose Abreu

With only 3 MLB hitters and 1 full time MLB starter, I thought the move here would be Kris Bryant, not the 27 year old Cuban defector. That said, he does have 30 HR potential playing in the hitter friendly US Cell. I would have liked to see what a Bryany/Sano/Buxton/Springer team could have done in a few years.

quote:

2 Barry - Kris Bryant

Biggest POP bat in the MiLB, I think this was the right move for a team not ready to compete for the title. Barry's team is a mix of MLB guys and middling prospects. Bryant can be his anchor in a few years. I expect him to trade off MLB vets this season and build a younger team for the future.

quote:

3 Rouge - Asdrubal Cabrera

A bit of a reach here, but not a terrible pick for a competing team that was filling a hole. You know Asdrubal won't carry you to a title but at the same time won't kill you. Far and away the most balanced SS on the board IMO. Thought Rouge could've used a SP here more, though. Looks like Cabrera would've made it to his next pick possibly.

quote:

4 Redd - Masahiro Tanaka

Somebody had to get him. Did not think it would be Redd considering his deep staff. I think he wanted Lucroy here (in the end he probably made out better with Tanaka/Ramos). I thought there was a possibility Redd went youth here, maybe a guy like Polanco. With the balanced keeper set and aging keeper pool, Tanaka is a safe pick, albeit it didn't really fill a hole. I think he or another SP will be trade bait for a bat before the year starts.

quote:

5 Knat - Gregory Polanco

Young PIT OF.

quote:

6 Geaux - Jonathan Gray

Ive spoke my piece on this one.

quote:

7 Earl - Jonathan Lucroy

Earl filled a hole at catcher, which seems to be a pretty deep position in the current pool. Lucroy and Ramos seemed to be the best available. Should be solid production, though there are other holes that couldve gotten addressed first.

quote:

8 Clams - Rafael Soriano

Clams is ready to win and he filled a hole at closer. Not sure Soriano was the best available as his numbers have been in a steady decline and their are other closer options waiting in the wings in Washington. If Soriano rebounds, he could easily post 40 saves on a good team. Clams had the luxury of going BPA and he chose to fill the hole at CP. We will see what happens.

quote:

9 Louie T - Jose Altuve

Sort of want but not really. Not a fan of drafting steals this early. Runs and RBI may be limited on that team. I have a few other 2Bs I like more. I don't love this pick or hate it since Lou's offense is pretty balanced. It could work. I would rather Prado or Hill here, who went right after in the draft.

quote:

10 Boo - Evan Gattis

I think he regresses a little, but still should provide nice HR numbers from the catcher spot. However, on a team that kept Johnny Cueto, I think I would have probably grabbed a solid SP. Boo's team could be interesting if he takes it in a certain direction.

quote:

11 Rick - Martin Prado

I think this guy was one of the better players in the pool and could really help a team win. Too bad he will go wasted on Rick's team. Nice position eligibly and numbers across the board. Could enjoy a career year with that lineup and ballpark.

quote:

12 Will - Aaron Hill

On a already good hitting team, I probably would not have taken Hill. Fister and JZimm were keepers, so Id probably add a K pitcher or even a closer. That said, Hill fills a hole and should put up decent enough numbers. Safe pick for cwill with some upside, like Prado.

quote:

13 Earl - Grant Balfour

Balfour has been lights out the last few seasons. Cant knock him. Would've went a different direction but in the end its a solid move to add saves.

quote:

14 RMCC - Jackie Bradley, Jr.

I just don't see this dude as a fantasy asset. Maybe Im missing something. I don't think any other team would touch him for another 5 rounds, at the least.

quote:

15 Gyno - Colby Rasmus

Went in wanting to grab an OF. Passed on the older options and decided to take a risk on Rasmus. 23 HR each of the last two seasons, with the later being in 200 less PA. In a contract year, hoping Rasmus can blast 30 and produce in a good lineup in a good park.

quote:

16 Honkus - Mark Teixeira

Weird situation. Seems like Tex thinks he can play, but the Yanks are holding him back. If he is truly as healthy as he sounds, he could be a nice veteran power bat for Honk. I don't mind this pick for a good team at the end of the first round. If it works, great. If not, he still should produce moderate numbers.

I really thought Lucroy would fall to me at 2.4, but I also thought Ramos would be gone in the first.

I'm definitely loaded with pitching now, and a trade isn't out of the question after the draft.
