if I were to keep him I would then have only 11 healthy keepers and limited picks..had to do something
yeah i know, good deal for you. just a head scratcher for someone to trade for him.

if he makes a full recovery, of which a lot more players do these days, then i'm looking at a staff of
Kershaw, Verlander, Weaver, Wainwirght
as soon as the draft is over, i throw AW on the DL and make a free agent pickup
the extent to which my 2010 lineup is affected is one less DL spot to use
the way i look at it, the potential reward is worth a lot more than the risk.
follow me now
i traded Brandon Morrow and an 11th for Brett Anderson and a 6th
i then deal anderson and an 8th for Jaime Garcia and a 3rd
finally, i dealt Garcia and a 3rd for Wainwright and an 11th
so i basically gave up Brandon Morrow and an 8th and got Adam Wainwright and a 6th
i think i'll live

That means you are effectively KEEPING a waiver wire player for this year.

in a keeper league like this, do you really think that every team will let a top 5 SP just sit out the in limbo while the league plays some sort of game of chicken?
the move could easily blow up in my face, but giving up a DL slot is the risk i am willing to take

dont you have the first pick of the draft?

correct
and did we ever see Strasburg sitting on the waiver wire? hell, he hadnt even really proved anything over a long period of time yet at the major league level
AW was one blown save away from back-to-back 20-win seasons

if honkus wasnt in this league, im not sure strasburg would be kept.
i cant think of anyone keeping someone out for the year going into the draft.

I would have held on to Starsburg...to me right now it's a age thing

he will be 31 when he hopefully returns, and i am taking the chance that he will have a couple more good seasons in his body. considering the similar style as Chris Carpenter, he could have a similar recovery. still a lot of time until we get to that point, though

Trading for AW is a gamble yes, but hardly crazy. If he wasn't kept, honkus should have drafted him with his first pick.

because of all of my moves, Daniel Hudson is all but assured of winning the NY Cy Young
this all started with me trading reddfig Hudson for Morrow str8 up

I like both Hudson and Morrow. They both have their issues, but it's hard to not like Morrow's K/9. You also have to remember that he was learning how to be a starter all of last year. Once he stopped trying to overpower everyone and started pitching his numbers improved dramatically. His stats from June on were pretty impressive. The down side is that he pitches in the AL East. Hudson has shown dominance throughout the minors and into the majors. I worry about a fly ball pitcher at Chase field, but he's going to be a good one IMO.

An odd move for a team that is expected to contend.
