this is the 2nd time in the last 4 elections this has happened. Both favored republicans.
If the reverse was true, I am sure conservatives would be annoyed too.
Its quite reasonable to be repulsed by the notion that the winner of the vote doesn't win the presidency.

This is silliness. Both sides know the rules. Keeping a tally of the popular vote is irrelevant. It would be like arguing the team with the most tackles or time of possession should win a football game or like Republicans arguing that they won the most states so we should change the system. No one is trying to win the popular vote. They are trying to win the electoral college. Democrats love it when they think the GOP's path is narrow to the presidency. Now, all of sudden, it is evil.

few things display the urban/non-urban divide in this country like the electoral college
we're a federal system of states and a federal government. the progressives just do not want to admit this because they want a European-style federal system. much of their work over the past 50-60 years was to expand fedgov and erode state sovereignty

That's why he called you unintelligent because you obviously can't see the reasoning behind the electoral college and why it's necessary.

sure. And the democrats lost fair and square.
But you can still be annoyed about it.

I haven't watched any tv today. Are all the CNN reporters frothing at the mouth or showing signs of rabies?

One can justify the loss however one wants. Arguing that an irrelevant criteria should select the president ex post facto when everyone knew the rules is silly. Both sides played to win the electoral college, not the popular vote. Winning something no one was trying to win and being annoyed that it isn't the rule of decision is stupid.
If the popular vote is so important, NY, CA, and MA should lead the charge and apportion their electoral votes by percentage of the vote won.

You're forgetting that the two participants in the race knew the way the contest would be scored and strategized accordingly. Thus, Trump focused on winning EVs. He won the most EVs and therefore also the contest. Had the rules been different, he would have modified his strategy in fundamental ways. If the winner was the person with the most votes, he would have campaigned so as to get the most votes, period, not caring from whence they came, and would have won that scenario.

It's like losing a football game and acting all angry because your team had fewer points despite gaining the most yards.
"But... but... football should be scored based on number of yards!!!"

i am not suggesting that hillary should be president, just that I can see why people would get annoyed about her not being president.

Hilarious that Trump supporters were saying the same thing just yesterday. Loser mentality.

I don't think people realize how different the turnout would be if it were popular vote. Lots of voters stay home in states they know are red or blue.

The electoral college will literally never change
You'd have to change the constitution, which requires approval of 2/3 of the states.
Smaller, more numerous individual states are what benefit from the electoral college
