So I bought a place that has a rig doorbell. How do I gain access to it?

You can try the app...if you unscrew the device from the holder, usually there's a QR code you can scan and add.
With that said, when I moved into my home with a ring. When I called them for support, they basically said the old owner would need to release ownership from their account. What they ended up doing for me is just sending me a new ring doorbell.

You've got to get the owner to remove it from his account...he can do this with his phone. Once done, you can install the app, scan the QC code on the back and it's yours.

Better check for other Ring cameras, the previous owner may be watching you.

last owner didnt deactivate so they did it for me. I think they saw that there wasnt any activity for months so they went ahead and changed it for me.

So I can contact Ring and get them to deactivate?

You can bet Ring gets these calls all the time ... They'll have an answer.

take the cover off. There is a factory reset button on it. download the app and follow the instructions.

I'm currently dealing with this problem, myself. Previous owner doesnt feel like taking 2 seconds out of his day to remove the camera from his account despite me reminding him twice over the last month. Called Ring and they said theyd send him a reminder email but they wouldnt manually take it off his account.

pry that thing off with a claw hammer and stomp it into pieces

Did you take the cover off and hit the factory reset?

Wont work at all. So someone could come up to your house, remove the Ring, bring tit to their house, hit a reset button and it's theirs?
NOPE

Well I sure hope it does because the prior owners aren’t available so I’d be hard pressed to have them cancel their subscription
