I’ve never been and the lady has been talking about it forever. I have quite a few Marriot points and sky miles.
What area of Paris should I be looking to stay at?

Everyone has their own personal favorite parts of Paris. I especially like staying in areas with some traditional shopping options (butcher, baker, patissier, etc), and I don't really care about "luxury". So I'll suggest:
--the Sentier neighborhood, around the end of rue Montorgueil (a historic market street). Good transit links, lots of food options, and not completely touristy.
--the NoMa, (Northern Marais), aka the Haut Marais, around the Arts & Metiers metro stop and Republique metro stop. The old covered Marche des Enfants Rouges, a food market with stalls, is nearby.
--more touristy, but still an interesting area: Odeon, on the Rive Gauche. Lots of cafes to choose from, and easy RER transit links to CDG via the Jardin du Luxembourg station.

I know you said Marriott points, but last time we went we stayed in the Marais. In this apartment LINK

We felt like we were very centrally located to the things we wanted to do/see. We were a block or two from the Metro, 10'ish min. walk to Notre Dame / Sainte Chapelle area. The restaurants & cafes right around us were all great too.

I prefer the 6th arrondissement, however I don’t think Marriot has anything there.

Of the hotels they have in their collection in Paris, the Hotel de Nell looks like the best spot. The others are too far out or too touristy

The Westin Place Vendomme. They take Marriot points. We were in France last month. We stayed in Paris for the first four days and the last four days of the trip. For the first leg we stayed just off rue du Buci in the 6th. At the end we stayed at the Westin in the 1st. It was like staying in two different cities. The 6th has a casual neighborhood feel while the 1st has a big city feel. We love the Westin. This was our third time there and my parents have been staying there since the 1980's when it used to be the Intercontinental. It is not cheap but it is not super expensive like some of its neighbors such as the Meurice across the street and the Ritz two blocks away. I would check that one out.
