Would the Simpsons lasted this long had they aged the characters?

By now Grandpa would have had to be killed off but you would think they could have had fun with Bart/Lisa as teenagers and now working adults. Along with Homer transitioning into more out of shape, unable to work, live off government type.....

Matt and Trey have talked about SP before where doing all kinds of crazy shite wouldn't work with anybody other than kids. I always thought it was a pretty big deal when they moved them up from third grade to fouth grade, as you don't really see that too often with cartoons.

South park aged them up one year after the fourth season. The Simpons are 24 years later. Maggie could have finished her doctorate by now.
