Electricians: Adding outdoor outlet

I am wanting to add an additional outdoor outlet beside my front door. Currently I have only 1 outlet in the front that is a good 20+ ft away from the door. This current outlet is wired to the guest bath outlet and on a GFIC breaker at the box. Total currently is two outlet on the 20 amp GFIC breaker.
Can I add another outlet to this circuit and does it need to be a GFIC outlet? Looking at running holiday decorations off the new outlet. Also would two outlets be pushing the limit?

Not an electrician but I’ve done my fair share of amateur home work.
If all you’ve got is 2 outlets on that 20A circuit, you’re fine to add 2 more. No the new outlets do not have to be GFCI as the others on the line will act to protect the circuit.
Make sure you’re adding 15A or 20A outlets. And use the appropriate outdoor rated enclosures. Other than that, it’s not terribly complicated.

Make sure your wiring is rated for 20A. It would be unlikely that you would draw that with 3-4 outlets, but it’s possible. Amd you don’t want insufficient wiring if you do for some reason have a sustained draw of close to 20A.

The electrical code does not specify a limit for how many outlets can be connected to a circuit since it doesn’t matter since the breaker limits the total current that the circuit can supply.
