Watching this makes me realize why it is such a great story. These Mets were good, damn good. Probably a team that should have at least made another WS. I won’t say they’re one of the best ever, but certainly worthy of discussion in the next bunch.
That said, it’s simple. You had the NY media fueling a team of wild men. It’s clear that the ‘80’s scenes transformed to Shea. That celebration after the division was clinched was absolutely nuts.
-They played a great series against Houston, which included one of the bests games ever played.
-The fear of Mike Scott was real. You had the added drama of scuffed baseballs, and a city where Mets players were arrested earlier in the year.
-The WS against Boston, the supposed cursed team. Also featured one of the all-time great games and moments.
While the ‘86 Mets may not have been the best ever, the ‘86 Postseason definitely has an argument.

Yes GOAT team of all time. Other than Gooden their pitching was incredible like darling and Jesse prosco and Roger McDowell and Bobby Ojeda. Sid fricking Fernandez. How. Did they lose a game?

On top of being really good, Scott was totally in their heads. Johnson managed Game 6 like it was Game 7 because they had no chance against Scott in Game 7. Some of the players stated as much.
