People forget that in his first year Hampton worked his way up to the starting lineup and was making good progress despite coming out late after the great 2019 championship run.
He looked lost at the plate at Minutemaid and also misplayed a ball in the OF vs Baylor in '20.

There are injuries in every sport for every team in the country. You think LSU is the only team in the country that has them? Two things that LSU has right is their strength and conditioning coaches and the trainers for rehab work in every sport

I told him if he was going to put all his eggs in one basket with baseball, I didn’t know how that was going to work out for him because he was so far behind so many guys in our program," Mainieri said. "His opportunity was going to be so far away.
Imagine hearing this, then seeing Bianco, Safford, Sanford, etc. getting reps before you. There’s a way to manage talent, and like has been shown on the baseball field and in roster management, Paul is lost.
Part of this is on PM, but a lot of it is on Hampton. To be a multi sport athlete you have to be extremely self confident and mentally tough because everybody is telling you you cant do it and need to specialize etc. Mo seemed a little too sensitive when he was popping off at fans on social media about the defense underperforming last year. My guess is he has always been a dominant athlete and everything has come pretty easily for him, even playing a lot as a freshman and winning a fb NC. This is likely the first adversity he's faced in sports and he's having a tough time with it.

Go listen to “Cry me a River” podcast episode from March 18th and listen to Chris Reid speak about his departure and come back to LSU baseball. Pretty cool to hear his stories

When Giocomo went down, Hampton was the only true CF on team and didn't get a start. I'm sure he saw he was not going to play.

That's the play where he popped his back out & those at bats were tf. His BA was .400 prior to that.
