So, as I was talking about in the ATT Fiber thread, I've made a few small tweaks to my Orbi router settings and I'm getting better speeds on speedtest, but still seeing inconsistencies that I'm unsure how to reconcole.

Logged into ATT Gateway and run internal speedtest, I'm getting 900Mbps+ up and down.

Wired connection on desktop, so router to Gig switch to desktop, I'm getting 900Mbps+ pretty consistently. The desktop is about 4 years old.

Wireless laptop I'm getting between 80Mbps-200Mbps up and down.

Samsung 65" TV (new this year) wired connection. I run HULU and will get a couple of buffers each night, not awful, but annoying. Anyway, went to the Internet app on the TV and ran a speedtest and am getting about 70-80Mbps up and down.

Here is sort of my question. Assuming you aren't streaming or something at the time, shouldn't all of my wired speedtests give me around the same speed?

Wired speeds might vary by device. My ps4 is hard wired and tops out around 20-30 I believe. My laptop gets over 200 when wired.

Yep. My smart TV is wired and I get an occasional buffer but usually only on live streams. Stuff like Netflix, Prime, Disney+ never seems to have an issue. I’ll run a speed test later when the kids aren’t watching and compare to my laptop.

70-80 wired is plenty to stream. The buffering could be bc of the stream source not your home speeds.

No, the link speed is negotiated independently between each device and the switch. The port light on the switch for the TV is probably orange instead of green (or something like that) to indicate that it is a 100mbit link instead of 1000mbit (gigabit).

Maybe the TV only does 100mbit. Maybe the cable is sub-par and a gigabit link couldn't be established. Or, if the switch says it's a gigabit link, the TV could be throttling the speed with software.

Regardless, that's plenty for streaming. If it buffers, you either have an intermittent problem with your connection, or the streaming app/OS has a bug, or could be anything really.

We don't notice any buffering on non TV's in the house on anything, including the HULU app. I opened a ticket with HULU and was eventually told they have seen intermittent buffering with Samsung TV's and that they were aware of the issue and were working on a fix, but I'm not sure if that was just a story to get me to go away.

I get 200+Mbs down on both wired and wireless devices in my home, but only 12 Mbs up on all, (Spectrum) you may want to reevaluate your router/settings.

My Samsung TV does better on WiFi than it does wired. Same thing with my gen 1 fireTV. Maybe the switch I have is ancient or maybe I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Both are strong possibilities.
