Rinnai error code 11

A few days ago started losing hot water at times. I could unplug Rinnai and it would work again temporarily. When hot water was out it would beep and flash error code 11.
Talked to plumber that installed and they said I need to check the gas supply. Google searches verified this can be a factor in failure and would cause error 11. I have a friend that works for local utilities over the gas repair crew so I called him. They checked it out and said everything looks great (at least to the meter).
Plumbers sent a guy out and he said he can almost guarantee it is a dirty “heating bar”. I’m not sure if I misheard him or terminology is wrong but he took apart the unit and there were 3 rods that were corroded. He cleaned those up and reassembled.
Fast forward to last night and it happens again. No hot water, beeping and flashing error code 11, I reset and it works fine.
Anyone have any suggestions to try before I pay plumber another $125 to go down their list?

Error code 11 is an ignition issue, either gas isn't being supplied or the igniter or the flame presence rod is the problem. Since you know you have gas you can replace the other parts, they are inexpensive and easily replaced with basic tools.

It’s probably coked up burners, my biggest bitch about tankless water heaters. I have to clean my burners every year (outside mounted unit). It’s not hard, but there’s ~30 screws that need to be removed to get the burner out. Take pics as you go so you can get it back together

You said gas is good to the meter, but what about after the meter?
My generator for some reason hasn’t been working, error code was gas supply. The problem was the regulator between the meter and generator

Had you had any close lightning strikes? A close strike took out the circuit board in mine.

I got an air can and cleaned out where the gas feeds into the eclectic pilot.
Seems to have fixed the problem. I guess I need to add that to my annual maintenance list.
