Thing is, I can push myself to complete longer runs with a high heart rate. I ran with said-friend a little over a month ago and we did 8 miles at around a 9:00/mile pace. Heart rate averaged 183 with a high of 202. I was DEAD for about a week though after it.

Yeah that's overdrive there. I'd at the very least mention it to my doctor again and let them know you are worried about it.

I'm not a doctor, so I have no idea if that's doing any long term damage in terms of the actual heart, but I wouldn't feel comfortable running with my heart working that hard. That's just me, though. This is likely way way too of a simplistic way of looking at it, but I wouldn't want any part of anything I use on a daily basis and rely on (heart, lungs, car engine, phone battery, etc.) working overdrive.

Morning Weight: 194 lbs

Workout
Stationary Bike: 4 x 15 minute segments
Pushups: 4 x 50
BW Squats: 4 x 40
Sit-Ups: 4 x 25

Notes
Like I mentioned in my last post, I had a drink the night before this workout. And while I didn't feel the effects of the alcohol the next day, I sure felt the effects of the poor sleep quality that the alcohol caused. I started off pretty strong, but by my 4th set I was toast. The bike is easy enough, but just having the motivation to keep going on those pushups and squats when you are tired is really tough. Scale read 192.2 afterwards, so that was nice.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple
Lunch: Black Forest Ham Hoagie w/ tomato, lettuce, ched cheese, mayo/mustard and Doritos
Snack: Chips and Salsa
Dinner: Steak w/ Potatoes and carrots
Dessert: Cookies and Milk

Notes
No MFP link today because I stopped counting around the time I had the chips and salsa. I think at that point it was 2:30 PM and I had about 200 calories remaining. I knew I was going to make steak, potatoes, and carrots for dinner so I thought "frick it, just eat, try not to go overboard." Which I did an......okay...ish job with. Not really, I had like 6 cookies (80 cal each) a big glass of milk after eating a pretty heft dinner portion.

My portion of the dinner -- At least I didn't grab seconds.

I'm gonna fast today I think. I went to the grocery store earlier this morning, I'm having my coffee now. I am a little hungry, but I can deal with it.

Other Notes
I am sore today son. My quads and chest have had it. Guess that means I worked. I finished my last bit of schoolwork for the week yesterday while I was "watching" Texas A&M and Miss St, so I don't have any left for today. Later in the day maybe I'll get a head start on some schoolwork for next week. Statistics is really starting to confuse me.

My wife and I watch this show called Dog Tales on Sunday mornings before the NFL games start, so I try to really enjoy those moments. Even if it is a silly show about dogs, I cherish that time we get to just sit there and do nothing together.

Some of the dog tale hounds

Saints are off. Bengals play the Colts. Maybe Joey B can get his 2nd win of the season. After the early games, maybe I'll start on some of that aforementioned schoolwork.

Long run tomorrow. Hope everyone has a good day!

Morning Weight: 195 lbs

Workout
NONE -- OFF DAY

Notes
I was pretty sore after Saturday's high-ish volume workout. I am glad I didn't have anything planned, especially after sleeping poorly again. Probably the over-eating and high sugar content of those cookies.

Diet
Breakfast: Coffee, splash of creamer
Snack: Tea
Lunch: Apple
Snack: Cheese Stick
Dinner: Steak/Potatoes
Dessert: N/A

Notes
No MFP Image again today. I broke my fast at around 19 hours in around 3 PM. I read that a splash of creamer with your coffee is fine as long as you keep it under 60 calories, as the body remains in a fasted state. I wanted to take it to 24 hours, but I was having MAJOR brain fog.

I broke it with an apple and then later with a cheese stick. I didn't bother counting calories because I know I was waaay under my number for the day.

Other Notes
I always dislike Sunday's. Even though I don't have a traditional 9-5, I still get the Sunday blues. For instance, all I have planned today is to knock out a lot of my schoolwork and go for a long run in the evening. Yet, yesterday I was still feeling melancholy. I think it goes back to when I was young, and my mom would have the NFL on the in the background and laundry would be going, and we'd be gearing up for the week. The dread of having to go to school is still there in my subconscious somewhere.

Drinking coffee right now, trying to have a positive outlook for this week. I'd like to avoid the disaster that was Saturday and Sunday in terms of food this week. Like I said, it takes a lot of willpower for me to stick on my caloric goals, and I'm plumb out of it come around Friday.

I caught most of the Bengals yesterday (what a disappointment) and then a little bit of that Sunday night game. I saw one drive in the 2nd half where LA was running that Henderson kid like 7-8 times on a single drive and he was picking up yards. At one point he was averaging 7 yards a pop on 12(?) carries. I had never heard of him, even with him being out of Memphis. It's not like Memphis is completely under the radar, they have had a solid past half decade. I'll keep an eye on him going forward. His stature is a lot like Clyde, maybe a little less shifty in his running, but he sure has some leg drive.

That's all I got for this morning. Hope everyone has a good day!

Morning Weight: 194.4 lbs

Workout
Run: 8 Miles @ 9:53 Pace

Notes
I was very proud of this run. I felt a little heavy due to the weekend not being as strict on my diet, so I didn't want to push it. Typically when I run I will put on a playlist that matches up to my desired pace. This run I just threw on a podcast and tried to go slow. It worked! I felt great all the way up to mile 6, when I started to get winded. I finished out strong, though and I was happy about it. My leg muscles were going crazy afterward twitching. I suppose that's a sign that I need to replenish my fluids better.

I always weigh myself after a run, even though I don't use it as an official weight. It's more of a motivational tool because it's 2, sometimes 3 pounds lighter than my morning weight. So I weighed myself after this one and was VERY happy.

It isn't my morning weight, but it still makes me excited. I haven't been that light since I was 20 years old.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple, More coffee
Lunch: Custom Salad Mix w/ bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, italian dressing, sunflower kernels
Snack: Blue Powerade, Blueberries and Yogurt
Dinner: Baked Salmon, Sautéed Green Beans
Dessert: Milk and Cookies

Notes
Good day dieting, although it helps when you have an extra 700 calories to work with. The extra coffee on my snack portion was because we went downtown in the mid morning due to some unusual circumstances. I didn't log it on MFP because it was just black coffee from a coffee shop. Also, some may be wondering why 6 cookies only clocks in at 480 calories. Well, I divide the portions into TBSP size cookies. So they are very small. It was actually only 3 cookies, but 6 TBSP servings all together.

The salad mix is new. I usually buy a bag of spinach and a bag of lettuce an alternate. I do this because I have read about eating raw spinach every day and the negative effects with oxalate buildup creating kidney stones. Well, I can't eat a bag of spinach and a head of lettuce every week, and my wife doesn't much go for salad unless I encourage it. So I have been having to throw half a bag of spinach and some lettuce away every week. This week, instead of a bag of spinach, I bought a bundle, chopped it up and combined it with a head of lettuce. This way I'm not getting too many oxalates, and I won't be wasting money every week.

I am trying to get more protein and salmon is a good way to do it. I love the skin. I have to find another protein source as well that isn't chicken.

Other Notes
I spent all day (other than the mid morning excursion on which we went) doing schoolwork, so the run was a nice reprieve. I am still rocking all A's, even in my most hated class, statistics. Today I am doing a bit of doordash during the lunch rush, but most of the day will be dedicated to figuring out statistics. We have an exam Thursday evening, as well as class today, so I am going to try to really figure out just what is going on. I understand it on a very basic level, but my ability to apply it is lacking. I have an A currently, but that would all change with a bad grade on this next exam. My only solace is that it seems like everyone else in my class is also confused, so maybe we are looking at a curve to end the semester.

That's really all I got for now. Gonna work on this schoolwork, try to make some money, and do the exercise bike later today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I can relate. I wasn't necessarily scared of Covid, but it was a reason to start my turn around. Unfortunately, I'm not athletic. Never have been. I thought when I joined the Navy that I would learn to love running, but I hate every second of it. I don't like to lift or any of it. Not only that, but it's just not me and while I may start it, I won't keep at it because it's punishment mentally for me.

But I did get my eating under discipline. I was at 220 and eating everything in sight. I could eat anything and keep around 220 so I felt like I was 'good'. First thing I did was buy a bluetooth scale and get the myfitnesspal app to log my food and a food scale. I went for less than 1500 carbs with no sugar. The first 20lbs flew off. I also took up walking.

After hitting a plateau, I switched to keto. I have had great results with it. Today I actually hit my bootcamp weight at 175 which is my goal. I still don't run but do walk at least 3 miles a day at a brisk pace. At 50, I'm not really wanting to become a gym rat. Once I learned how to eat and the right portions, I quit logging the food and weighing it. The hardest thing is just being disciplined. Quitting and suffering. Taking a cheat day(s) helps but not a sabotage day.

It feels good to start working on yourself and getting yourself back into being disciplined doesn't it? Congrats on your path. I know that I don't plan on going back myself. Now I just have to figure out the maintenance part.

FWIW, I went from a 38 pants to 28. An XL shirt to a Medium.

I couldn't agree more. Discipline reigns over everything. I used to read that saying "You can't outrun a bad diet" and think it was BS, but it really is true. I learned that the hard way after I rode a century and thought I could eat whatever I wanted the same day and the day after. I ended up weighing more 3 days after the ride than I did before.

Cheat days are good, but you're right, many people do sabotage days. Which is a whole different thing. I've had those sabotage days, and more than anything I think it speaks to a deeper psychological problem than just lack of willpower.

Feels amazing. I've had weight loss journeys in the past, but never anything that has lasted this long (6+ months) with this much weight lost (40 pounds).

Congrats to you as well. I appreciate you checking in.

Morning Weight: 192 lbs

Workout
None

Notes
I just had no energy. I hopped on the stationary for like 5 minutes but ran out of juice quickly. The 8 mile run took more out of me than I realized.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple
Lunch: Salad Mix w/ bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, italian dressing, sunflower kernels
Snack: GF Ham Sandwich w/ Mustard
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables w/ rice
Dessert: Hot Cocoa w/ Milk

Notes
A good day diet wise. It's tough for me to stay under goal when I don't have any exercise as a buffer, but I did it.

Chicken and vegetables is maybe my favorite dish that I make, mostly due to how easy it is. I put an onion, bell pepper, 2 russet potatoes, 4-5 carrots, and 3 zucchini in a bowl and season with celery salt, tonys, salt, and pepper. Then I do bone in chicken thighs with oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. I put the vegetables in a baking dish, pour some flour and water over them, then put the chicken on top of it all. Wrap with foil, and bake at 400 for 2 hours. It's so simple and it comes out thick and lasts for 3 days.

I've been neglecting my tea for cocoa. Maybe because of the colder temperatures. I need to stop that, because it's about 300 extra calories.

Other Notes
I was happy with the weight I was yesterday morning. 192 is a long way away from my original weigh of 236. I seemed to have gotten over my plateau of 195, but I know it's going to take work to lose these last 27 pounds. I might try to work in more high intensity stuff. I still have my old cleats from HS. Maybe some sprints and agility drills might do me some good.

I don't have all that much going on today. Just going to try to make some money dashing, and prepare for my statistics exam tomorrow. Our professor gave us a study guide with the sort of material that will be covered and a lot of it is multiple choice and t/f questions that asks about theory. So I think I should be okay in that regard. Where I have the most issue is applying it in excel. I am "certified" in Excel, but I am still not that great with it. I am going to have to work to get better at that.

Just had breakfast, drinking coffee now. It's been a bit more difficult to maintain a positive attitude this week. I am missing home a good bit. We have been in Boise for over 3 years, and while it is an exceptional place to live, we don't have any family and it can be kinda isolating.

The Treasure Valley is a great place

We definitely don't want to go back to Louisiana, for a number of reasons. But maybe being somewhere within a day's drive would be nice? All of our family is either there or Houston, Lake Charles, da Berry, or Lafayette. It is okay most days, but there are stretches where I feel like I don't belong here. Oh well, we will be here for at least another year and a half while I get my degree from Boise State. Then who knows?

I'd love to go on a bike tour eventually. Maybe even right after graduation if I don't have an immediate position lined up. A solid tandem bike can run in the low thousands, but I think it'd be worth it. I'd love to go up to NW Arkansas, cut across Tennessee and see Nashville, down through NC and then down the east coast.

I'd say that's enough day dreaming for today. It's time to make the donuts.

Thanks for reading and have a good day!

Morning Weight: 193 lbs

Workout
2 Miles @ 7:27 Pace

Notes
Started out a little too hot on this one. At one point I looked down and was a little over a half a mile in running in the mid 6's. My plan was originally to run 2.5 but I realized how winded I was getting already. I slowed it down a bit and finished out strong with 2. From there I just walked home.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple
Lunch: Salad Mix w/ bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, italian dressing, sunflower kernels
Snack: GF Pepperoni Pizza -- 2 Slices
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables w/rice, Milk
Dessert: Herbal Tea

Notes
Decent enough day. I did my best to stay within my goals. How full I am feeling after the chicken and vegetables makes me think I've calculated it incorrectly. Oh well, we only have 1 serving left. I'll go light on it tonight.

Other Notes
My 2nd statistics exam opens today and is due Sunday. We have to have our webcam enabled and a program called Proctorio set up. I have read that these programs are very sensitive and catch even the slightest eye movements. I don't really care, as I'm not gonna spend my test time worrying about if artificial intelligence is trying to catch me cheating. I am confident with some of the material, shaky on some other stuff, and flat out lost on a small portion. I spent about 3-4 hours yesterday learning some concepts, maybe I'll take an extra day to study more. Knowing me, I'll just procrastinate.

I also have my accounting class this evening, that is one class in which I am not worried. I just get that stuff. It is very easy so far. All you have to do is pay attention and it clicks. My other classes are just sucking up time at this point, but they are just intro business/econ classes so that's to be expected. I am ready for next semester when I will be in courses that are more accounting focused.

It was a very slow day dashing yesterday and I happened to bring a book. It's Bag of Bones by Stephen King. I have read a few King Novels (The Long Walk, The Green Mile) and one of his short story collections. So far I like this one, although I am less than 100 pages in.

Good book so far, and something nice to take my mind off of school.

I don't have much else. Just trying to win every day. Have a good one!

I lived in Mountain Home for 4 years. Boise is a great place. I'd move back in a heartbeat if my wife liked the cold weather.

Nice work on the journal, too.

Haha, yeah I had relatives complaining about the heat about a month ago while we were waking up to temps in the 40s. It was nice, but soon enough we will be the one complaining about the cold temps.

Thanks for reading and come on back!

Morning Weight: 193.2 lbs

Workout
None -- Off Day

Notes
No workout. Rest day, which was useful considering I felt a little under the weather all day. Not sick, just low energy.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple
Lunch: Spinach Salad w/ bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, italian dressing
Snack: Sour Cream and Cheddar Pot Chips
Dinner: Chick Fil A, Bourbon
Dessert: Ice Cream

Notes
I binged. It was a mess. I'd really rather not dwell on it.

Other Notes
Not a great day. Doordash was slow, I felt tired, I didn't get around to my statistics test, and then I felt so bad and my willpower was so low I probably ate 2000 calories or so over my limit.

Oh well, that was yesterday. Today is today. Looking ahead.

Morning Weight: 193.6 lbs

Workout
None - Really feeling off lately

Notes
In my planner my goal for today was to run to a park, maybe stretch and do some bodyweight work, and then run back home. But I don't know, I've just been feeling really low energy lately. It's very hard for me to get up and get moving. Maybe it's the changing of the seasons? It's probably all in my head.

Diet
Breakfast: 2 eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, coffee w/ creamer and sugar
Snack: Gala Apple
Lunch: Salad Mix w/ bell pepper, tomato, cucumber, feta cheese, italian dressing, sunflower kernels
Snack: Tea w/ Honey
Dinner: Del Taco

Notes
Pretty decent day. Due to not feeling great my appetite wasn't what it normally was. When dinner hit I realized that I had more calories left than I realized. Wife wanted some fries from Del Taco, so I decided to go that route. Went over my calories by 50, but I'm not terrible worried about it.

ALSO, I upped my caloric intake to be at losing 1 pound per week instead of 1.5 pounds per week. I think 1700 is a little too low for my psyche right now, and 1 pound per week will put me at a slower progression, but I think I will be able to stave off urges better.

Other Notes
I am surprised my weight is not higher from my binge on Thursday. Usually I hold weight after a binge, especially if alcohol is involved so seeing myself still under 194 is very surprising.

Got a good slate of games today. My schedule is:

Early: TCU/Oklahoma
Mid: Iowa State/Okie State
Late: LSU/SC (obv) and Mich/Minn

I am upset LSU is also in the late slot because I have been waiting a while to see just how lethal Tanner Morgan to Rashod Bateman will be this year. I know Minnesota lost a big piece in Antoine Winnfield, but I think they will be able to win the West this year and compete with OSU in the title game.

BTW, I was just watching Gameday, did anyone else see that Justin Fields preview? Dude is looking lean as shite after going plant based. Fewer calories, I suppose. I don't care, I still eat meat.

Gonna get on the bike for at least an hour during that early slot and also do some bodyweight stuff. After that I have a few very small discussion board posts to make for some of my classes and then statistics study. As always, the toughest part of the day is making sure I don't overstuff my gullet.

Hope everyone has a good Saturday and

It's absolutely in your head. You've hit "The Wall." You have to push yourself and just do it. Some of the best workouts I've ever had came when I felt like complete shite and didn't want to go to the gym. Once I physically got inside the building my mindset changed immediately.

I really hate "The Wall."

I want to lose more weight, although subconsciously I think I am so proud of the weight I have lost that it's like it's hard to see being even more proud of myself, even if I were to drop another 30.

I was already planning on making myself get on the bike for at least an hour, despite still having little energy/optimism. Your post just added a bit of fuel to the fire. I need to actually work on the bike, not just go through the motions.

Appreciate the check in.
