So you smoke weed and play way too fricking loud

Smoke a lot of weed yes, but I can afford to. We all play loud, but it's all about the mix. That's what is most important.

When playing live we always had our own sound guys to adjust to whever we were at, for the past 10 years I've been using a 5150, triple/dual rectifier or a powerball 2.

Love it loud, but complimenting and serving its purpose.

..plus if I were more talented, it would make more sense to turn me up.

I'm kind of the opposite: a bassist that moonlights as a guitarist.

Edit: Got a little into black metal when I lived in Norway. Some of it's not bad. Some of it definitely is.

Beautiful country with great musical history. I prefer Sweden though, their incorporation of melody speaks louder to me. Gothenburg and Stockholm are two of my favorite Scandinavian cities.

Judging by the way you're dressed, you and I probably listened to the same jam back in the day. Your picture reminds me of this guy:

Ha, knew that was the bassist for The Jam, but had to look up his name

Oddly enough, I wasn’t ever a huge fan - however, when my band recorded their first album, the engineer asked me what I wanted my bass tone to sound like and I played him this. So I had a pretty fair appreciation for Mr Foxton’s work

I was probably into a lot of similar stuff though - Elvis Costello (Bruce Thomas is the GOAT), The Clash, slightly more obscure stuff like The Vapors and The Records, US acts like The Ramones and Iggy, plus all the early British Invasion stuff by The WHO, Kinks, Beatles etc.

All Mod Cons, indeed

What kind of mods do you have on the Rick? I'll try to post a picture of mine later. I've got a 1976 4001 with a bartolini in the bridge pickup slot and a newer push/pull 4003 harness installed, to be able to bring the orange cap in and out of the circuit.
Had my drummer (EE from my AU days, a North Alabama redneck genius) rework the whole blasted thing about 5 years ago. Completely rewired and copper shielded it, put in JBE pickups and set the action nice and low, and it plays as good as it sounds. I had long before installed Schaller tuners to replace the insufferably bad original Grovers after the A tuner underwent what fighter pilots call an Unplanned Rapid Disassembly in the middle of a gig

I also have the push-pull harness - I really like what it can do with the tone.

I don’t play the Rickster live as much as I used to since I got the Geddy, but I do like to put it through its paces every now and then

Stockholm was pretty nice. Same with Amsterdam, Copenhagen, etc. Scandinavia in general is just a great region.

I thought as much!

Just in case you’re interested: here’s a link to what we sounded like circa 1982: The Moderns

On that same site is an album we recorded a couple of years ago, as well as two more the guitarist and drummer recorded in the late ‘80s without me (the bastards).

You can also find us on Spotify and other streaming services (although there was a Swedish band by the same name with a somewhat similar sound that came out a little after we did).
