I mean...yea, but most other instances of this at least had something to point to. Guess we're done hiding it now??

It would seem that way.

I follow them on insta and saw some white mans mea culpa they posted the other day. Kind of made my stomach turn

Basically even though he is a prominent voice keeping southern food alive (and even growing its appeal and telling its true story) he’s the white devil

I guess Vivian Howard is next? She cooks collard greens with a black lady who is the house cook for a white man, after all. Can't have that.

As much as I wanted to love the show "True South", Edge makes me cringe. His Faulkner wanna be style of narrating drives me up a wall....

I thought I was the only one. I would keep catching myself asking if he listened to himself in the editing process.

that being said I always thought he did an awesome job of painting a really complete ethnic picture of the South. I really don't understand this

Also right.

The twitter folk gunning for Edge are now telling Vishwesh Bhatt (JB winning chef @ Snackbar) to "decolonize"

This! Like I said before I LOATHE his writing style, but the stuff he highlights is next level and actually shows a full picture of the South. How many people would figure to go to Alabama and highlight a Greek community, or come to Shreveport and highlight a Chinese restaurant.... and they are all part of the southern culinary landscape. He went out of his way to host a dinner between black BBQ owners and a Peruvian who cooked out of a gas station...at the damn gas station.... if that's not painting a full and inclusive picture of the South, I don't know what is.... but he's white so....

I would assert that the "full and inclusive picture of the South" is what actually riles up the NY Times more so than his "whiteness."

This. They would much rather see a narrow and very non-inclusive picture of the South...

Can't have anything that might get in the way of our concocted caricatures.

I feel like anyone can highlight every black owned black BBQ and meat and 3 joint in the South, and you would be highlighting some excellent stuff and really important stuff, but that's not the whole picture. But I guess it's racist to focus on any other part of the picture....at least that's the impression I get everytime someone posts HERE'S A LIST OF BLACK OWNED RESTURANTS EAT HERE!!!!

I'd be really interested to see how the offerings at meat & three restaurants differ by locales. I'd imagine that certain areas have particular meat offerings and vegetables that would not be found in the next state.

I know John pretty well. Been around him for almost 15 years now. I have read almost all of his books and done a ton of work with him and the SFA. He definitely has an ego and runs around in the "cool kids" crowd. I like John and I think he has done a great job painting a delightful picture of the south and its food heritage. With that being said he is a staunch liberal and supported this narrative and im sorry but you must now sleep in that bed. They'll eventually come for everyone, including the people that help and support the communities. The snake truly is eating its own tail.

Good...that's exactly how all this ends
