In the next few years, I'd really like to start going on some long weekend-5 day trips, within reasonable driving distance of Hammond. Things I'd like to do are site seeing, dining, and relaxing. The topic about Natchez got me intrigued, and I'd like to add more places to my list. What do ya'll suggest?

From Hammond? Ever been to Vicksburg? Pretty cool if you like Civil War history.

How about Pensacola if that's not too far? Great restaurants. Visit the museum on the base. The beaches are spectacular. Tour Fort Pickens / Gulf Island National Seashore.

For something different, what about Caddo Lake? Went there once when I lived in Dallas.

Guess it depends on what you consider a reasonable driving distance but for a long weekend I could do 10ish hours.
Chattanooga
Asheville
Helen, GA
Memphis

Those are some of my favorite getaways to the east of you

Yeah just went to Dahlonega, GA—great town and area. Lots of wineries. Consolidated gold mine is fantastic. Highly recommend going—especially around Christmas. Get tickets for whatever is showing at the Holly Theater.

We drove over to Helen but it was kind of a dump in comparison to be honest. It might be better in the summer if you tube the river there

Didn’t make it to Blue Ridge, GA but I hear that’s nice also.

If OP wants to drive that far, fully agree.

Dahlonega is great. Lots of cool shops, restaurants and bars.

You could stay at the Amicalola Falls Lodge! Maybe 20 minutes to Dahlonega.

We stay several times a year in Blue Ridge GA, which is maybe 45 minutes to Dahlonega. Tons of shops, restaurants. Toccoa Riverside Restaurant is a favorite. Many cabin choices to look into. We recently stayed here for example!

Try Cloudland State Park in GA. Stay in a Yurt!
