He claimed after the game that he did it to protect his teammate, MG, who was under a pile getting punched by Pouncey. Mason was no where near MG at that time.

A) it was a push - Debatable
B) in was in heat of a team fight - He ran up, 5 seconds late and blindsided a QB without a helmet on who was standing off to the side of the ongoing altercation
C) he seemed to backdown quickly knowing his teammate was mostly in wrong - Because he realized what a douche move it was.
