Here's my opinion on each position. I'm not taking the exact number of 53 very seriously right now. It will be much more obvious after Game #3/4 of the preseason.
Preseason Position Battles (choose 9 if you want to be exact, but it doesn't really matter)
#3/#4 RB - Jacquizz Rodgers, Dwayne Washington, Devine Ozigbo, Kerwynn Williams - I think Rodgers & Ozigbo are going to be better RB's than Washington in 2019. They both had more ST snaps than Washington in Game #1. If I had to choose between Rodgers & Ozigbo right now...I'd probably go with Ozigbo.
#5/#6 WR - Austin Carr, Simmie Cobbs, Emmanuel Butler, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Deonte Harris, Cyril Grayson, Travin Dural - This is probably going to come down to the last preseason game, but I'll go with the 2 udfa's with a big upside in the passing game.
#3 TE - Dan Arnold, Alize Mack, Garrett Griffin, A.J. Derby - Arnold had 10 ST snaps. I'll still go with him, but any of the other 3 guys could make it.
#8/#9/#10 OL - Chris Clark, Marshall Newhouse, Will Clapp, Michael Ola, Ryan Groy, Patrick Omameh, Ethan Greenidge, Derrick Kelly, Marcus Henry - Other than Chris Clark...I'm not really sold on anyone else right now. I could actually see us keeping just 8 OL to start the year. Easton, Tom & a legit backup OT should be enough unless we have multiple injuries. If we keep 9...I think it will be out of: Newhouse, Clapp, Ola, Groy, or Omameh.
#4/#5 DE - Wes Horton, Geneo Grissom, Porter Gustin, Corbin Kaufusi - I'll still go with Gustin. Geneo Grissom did play 6 snaps on ST's. This is a pretty weak position battle.
#5/#6 LB - Vince Biegel, Kaden Elliss, Josh Martin, Colton Jumper, Darnell Sankey - Elliss played solid on defense & had 20 ST snaps. He's probably going to make the team...as of right now at least. If we keep 6 LB's...Biegel (16 ST snaps) & Josh Martin (12 ST snaps) is a good battle. Sankey had 13 ST snaps as well.
#6/#7 CB - Marcus Sherels, Ken Crawley, Kayvon Webster - I think Sherels wins the returner battle, but Deonte Harris does move very well. I'll go with the experienced guy right now. If we keep 7 CB's...I'll go with Webster (16 ST snaps) over Crawley (5 ST snaps). Crawley also didn't look to great in coverage.
#5 S - Saquan Hampton, J.T. Gray, Terrell Williams Jr., T.J. Green - Hampton had 9 ST snaps. He still looks like the smart pick if we keep 5 Safeties. Gray had 11 ST snaps as well.

I actually liked TE A.J. Derby could see him as #3

Derby isn't a scrub. He definitely has a chance...especially if Alize Mack & Garrett Griffin can't get healthy.
#3 TE is a good battle, just need Mack & Griffin back on the field.

Idk how Dwayne Washington couldn’t be the number 3. He’s played great any chance he had.

Rodgers looked like shite. Zero chance he makes it over Washington.
Arnold and Biegl also make it.

He has looked good. It has more to do with what the other 2 guys can do.
Ozigbo looked better than him last game imo. He looks like a more complete back to me.
Also, Rodgers' talent in the passing game is the only reason he has a chance. Washington is easily a better runner than Rodgers.
Rodgers is far from a lock, but we could really use him in the passing game. Ozigbo & Washington are kind of similar RB's compared to Rodgers, & I'd take Ozigbo over Washington right now.
Rodgers won't work out if CSP doesn't think he will be a good fit in our passing game. Either that or his age(29) started catching up to him.
We'll have a much better idea after the 4th preseason game.

He was on the team for like 2-3 days when he played on Friday. I'll give you that Washington is easily a better runner, but let's see what Rodgers does in the passing game in Games #2/#3/#4.
Good news is that we will have 2 starting caliber RB's & probably 2 solid backup RB's as well. I think we'll find 2 solid guys out of Washington, Rodgers, Ozigbo, & Kerwynn Williams. If we can only find 1 solid backup RB, then we can always just keep 3 RB's.

Which one meshes well with Drew and can help in Blitz pick-up/safety valve will factor in strongly as to who makes the team.

I think Kirkwood is pretty much a lock at WR. I’m interested to see who makes it out of Deonte Harris and Cyril Grayson. Harris started at KR, but both did well in that role. Grayson had a great catch on offense though and I don’t remember Harris doing anything on offense.
I think you can pencil in Kaden Elliss at the moment. And P. Gustin did okay. Had some good pressure and was around the ball a bit. Did he get any ST snaps? If not and he does this game, that may be a sign he impressed during the game.
I don’t know if Josh Hill is a lock. Arnold had a great play, then two bad plays. Mack seems to have talent, but needs to stay healthy and Derby played well. This position battle is very interesting.
I thought Rodgers was a lock, but he didn’t play well at all. Granted, he was on the team for about three days. We will have to see what he looks like this week. Washington was okay. Ozigbo impressed me the most. As of right now, I’d keep him over the other RBs in this group.

I putting him as a lock just based the fact I really think he has pictures of Mickey Loomis banging Mark Brunell in 2009.

Hope Mack comes back healthy and beats out Arnold.

Holder says we just signed another rookie Linebacker... Drew Lewis

I think Josh Hill is a lock. He's easily our best blocking TE & he just signed a 3 year extension.
2019 cap # - 1.9 mil...Dead Money if cut - 3.35 mil. We would have to pay 1.45 mil more to cut him. 2020/2021 is a possibility though.
2020 cap # - 2.845 mil...Dead Money if cut - 1.75 mil.
2021 cap # - 3.355 mil...Dead Money if cut - 750 k.
The only guy that we have to possibly replace Josh Hill is Garrett Griffin. I think he's more of a blocking TE like Josh Hill
All our other TE's are basically pass catchers. Cook, Arnold, & I think A.J. Derby.
Alize Mack has the potential to be our only complete TE. The problem is that he has a lot to learn, but he can't get on the field due to injury. If he doesn't get on the field soon...he might have to settle for the PS.

I think Kirkwood is a lock as well. Deonte Harris & Grayson are competing with Sherels to make the team as a returner. The bad news for Harris & Grayson is that Sherels is very good & he can't be stashed on the PS. The good news for Harris & Grayson is that Sherels has been injured for the last 2 weeks, & he's starting to lose some ground to those 2.
If CSP & our new Special Teams coach already know that Sherels is going to be the returner...I'd actually try & limit the amount of returns that Harris & Grayson get. We don't want either of those 2 blowing up if we know their destination is the PS. All you're doing is showing every NFL team how much depth we have. You're basically asking to get poached.
If the returner position still hasn't been decided...I don't have a problem with Harris & Grayson making returns.
