Without the aid of Google, which may not know either lol.

Can somebody tell me why the genre nu metal is always purposely misspelled ? IDK either, I couldn't find it online but didn't look hard. . IDK the answer, and it's my favorite genre or sub genre of music.

I'll tell you what, that would be impressive, if someone answered that question correctly ,without google.

I always figured it was taken from Primus back around the beginning of the 90s when they labeled their music "gnu metal".

FFS, man, do you want an answer or not?

I looked and couldn't find anything definitive. My best guess is that most of the early bands misspelled their names and the genre itself (if it even qualifies as anything but "alternative metal" other than in a contrarian sense) trends towards superficial distinctions like that.

But, hell, Google is smarter than any of us and it doesn't appear to know.

I would guess because it's cool and because it doesn't necessarily mean only "NEW"

How is a rainbow made? Why does the sun set? How does a posi-trac on a Plymouth work? It just does.

nu actually stands for "Norwegian Underground" as this genre of music traces it's original roots to Norway. This style of music was heavily frowned upon by many Norwegians claiming it was devil music. As a result artists usually performed at hidden pubs, often in association with illicit raves, that were underground or hidden from public view.
