Internet Data Cap Question

Thinking of dropping Directv and going with a streaming service.
Just looked through the last year of my Internet usage and the highest amount we used was 157 GB. The second highest was 122 and then 106. Every other month was 70 GB or lower.
If this is our normal use, we should be safe with 1 TB of data by adding a streaming service, correct?

I answered this in your other thread. Streaming video uses 2-3 gigs per hour. In other words, if you watch 4 hours of TV per day, expect to use something like 250-400 gigs of data per month on streaming. If you have a second TV that gets watched 4 hours per day as well, double those figures.
Most likely 1TB will be plenty as long as you don't leave the TV on as "background noise" all the time. When no one is watching, turn it off.
But as more 4K content is added in the coming years, most people will blow right through these "generous" 1TB caps.

Not sure. I easily go over 1tb, but I have four people and I download like a mad man.

att. its me and my wife and we dont watch tons of tv. usually only from like 7-9 pm. we let our kids only watch tv while we get them ready in morning. we surf the internet more than watch tv. i don't to any online gaming and we don't download that much stuff.

i skirted the 300MB cap (yep, nashville was fricked by comcast early on) and seemed to always bump up against it every month.
they moved to 1TB and i swear as God as my witness i went over the SECOND MONTH afterward. no matter what you think you're using..you will need more data than you think.
data caps are bullshite. i wish we would get some real competition in my area so i wouldn't have to fricking watch what i'm doing the last week of every month when i get that fricking "you are at 90% of your data" message that pops up on every fricking device in my house.

We are heavy streamers and have only gone over 1TB once in the past 2 or 3 years.

i was like WTF is killing my data and looked up the usage on my router and gave him quite a talking-to. He hadn't even looked to see how big the game was before he started downloading it.

Trying to point out how ridiculous the data cap bullshite is when a single game download could hose you for the whole month.
In the case in question above this was a damn update to a game. Lord help you if your kid has a few games on his pc with auto update enabled.

Feel terrible for you guys. I’ve got two circuits running to my house. Att Gigabit and Spectrum 400mpbs as a fail over. Cost me a a total of $115 per month with no data caps.

Here’s the real kicker. I live in a smallish town in an average sized county in South Carolina. Hell my neighborhood qualified as rural by the USDA housing program when we bought our home 3 years ago.
So it just blows my mind to think how I got so lucky when people in huge cities are getting screwed.
