I have two bayou classics and they both seemed to have decreased in output this year. I assume I just need to remove the piece where the gas comes out and clean it? What are some easy methods in cleaning it? Wire brush? Compressed air? Soaking it in something?

Do you know 100% it's the burner and not the regulator going to shite?

+1. It's almost always the regulator. (Except for the time dirt daubers colonized my jet burner.) Inexpensive regulators are almost disposable these days. Gotta step up in price significantly to get one that will last more than a few years.

How can I determine that there's an issue with the regulator? I replaced the regulator on one of them a couple years ago as it was leaking gas out of it. The new regulator has probably only been through about 6 boils. The other is original and about 10 years old and has been used probably at least 40-50 times for crawfish boils or beer brewing.

I also noticed that both regulators get pretty cold after being on for a while, but not icy. For the burners last use, they both started off with good output, but after the first batch of crawfish, one burner had a considerable decrease in output and the other a little decrease.

On mine, the gas comes out of a cap nut with a small hole drilled in it. You can stick a paperclip (or wire) in the hole to clean it out. It may have a little piece of rust blocking it. Or you may need to remove the nut and clean out the inside.

Take the hose off the jet burner, and take the brass nut off the end where your flame comes out.
Take a rifle/gun cleaning kit and run the brush down the pipe a few times until no more rust and debris are coming out. Clean inside your brass nut and near the pinhole.

I had to do this regularly with my bayou classic double jet.

I upgraded to stainless steel last year.

See pic of what inside looks like when I used to clean tube out.

Damn, that is a lot of rust haha! Thanks for the advice.

I may just have to get the stainless steel double jet for my next burner.

You're telling me. And I took care of the burner. I would clean it out about once a year, before crawfish season.

I ended up getting this and I like it a lot.

ETA: I changed out the hose for a longer hose and got a 60 PSI regulator on sale.

Do you have any issue with the tank freezing up with that much psi? Or did you get a bigger tank?

I have a 40 pound tank. So no issue with freezing.
Standard 20 pound will freeze.
