Ninja Gaiden, God of War, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Darksiders.

Conquered every single game up to this point in their franchise (some unfortunately to my protest) but one thing I don’t understand is....

How did DMC get so many sequels? I started a thread earlier asking about the games and which to play etc. well I’ve played all them. The only games that were missing from my repertoire were the god of war games and DMC and I just finished God of BOY TO to top it all off. DMC was notably mediocre compared to the rest in control scheme, story and aesthetic. 4 and 5 were definitely improvements but the first few games were essentially like resident evil and final fantasy backgrounds with open field hack and slashing. It was so weird.

Idk what your thoughts are but I can’t wait for definitely for GoW 5, Bayonetta 3 and Ninja Gaiden 4.

Ninja Gaiden Black is an all-timer and probably the best action game of all time. Perfectly paced, properly implemented difficulty modes, great bosses and environments, strong enemy variety, high skill ceiling. Amazing that it ran at 60fps on OG Xbox. NG2 was also amazing barring the technical issues and boss rematches. 3 sucked, Itagaki's absence was painfully apparent.

Is there really supposed to be a 4? I would nut if Team Ninja resurrected it. Scared without Itagaki again, he just gets it.

God of War

2 is the best of the original trilogy. 1 was a solid foundation, 3 lost its way a bit with the new director, especially after Barlog's sublime direction in 2.

New one was amazing but can hardly be compared to the originals. Totally different.

Devil May Cry,

this one is tricky. I remember renting 1 from Blockbuster as a kid and swore it was the best game ever. I replayed it probably 12 years later and couldnt believe how bad it was. I beat it in like 4 hours and couldn't believe how average it was. I think it was so revolutionary at the time that it seemed better than it really was.

2 was dogshit, I even knew that as a kid.

3 is an all-timer IMO. Perfect blend of combat mechanics, puzzle solving, and writing. Great characters, very cinematic.

4 was awesome until you played the entire game in reverse LOL. WTF were they thinking

5 was good, but had too little enemy and environment variety. People saying it's the best in the series, but it's not. Best combat maybe, but not overall package

Bayonetta

Played 1 and enjoyed it. Started 2 but got sidetracked and never went back. It's supposedly incredible.

Darksiders

1 was awesome, 2 sucked. Haven't played 3.

GoW

The only game I’ve ever played that my fiancé actually wanted to watch me play.

Such a good game. I need to play through it again.

Best 5 games I’ve played in the last year, and this is just off the dome:
1. God of War
2. Red Dead 2
3. Celeste
4. Sekiro
5. Mario Odyssey

I was so glad I tried this. One of the best "Free game of the month" for any system I've ever played. #1 being when bloodborne was free.

I've seen your standard for "hard" games. You did not beat the Ninja Gaiden NES games

Technically, I’m not wrong even at that.

The game was marketed as retaining a link between the original but only as to draw in the western audience. It’s a completely different universe, literally. The “reboot” is set in the DOA Tecmoverse and the original NES titles are all their own.

The black series is all its own so yes, I’ve conquered them all. That wasn’t even the point of the thread anyway. I was just wondering how such a mediocre hack and slash amid such all timers got more sequels than the rest in a shorter time. Makes no sense.

DMC is the foundation for those games though. Without it figuring things out, the others wouldn't be nearly as good. Yes, they're harder to play now, but they were very innovative for its time.

Well, Devil May Cry started off its development as a new Resident Evil game, so that might be why you feel that way. It has the fixed, cinematic camera angles that were typical of the RE series at the time.

Regardless, you really needed to play the first one at release, because I remember it felt like nothing else I had ever played before. Outside of fighting games, it was the first 3rd person game I had played in that style, where moves could be strung together so fluidly and on the fly. I also don't remember having played a game like it that mixed guns with melee combat. It was impressive then and one of the first PS2 games I ever picked up. I skipped its sequel because I heard it was terrible and developed by a completely different team at Capcom. And I love 3 to this day.

DMC is the reason I got a PS2 in the fall of 2001. Played the demo at Funcoland and that 60 FPS goodness blew me away.

Devil May Cry is a franchise that has been around for quite awhile and one that has never had much of an identity. The developers of the first game didn't return for any of the sequels and went on to make Bayonetta. The second game wasn't even supposed to be a Devil May Cry game.

Devil May Cry 3 is considered the best in the series, and in a lot of ways it's really what the games that came after it aspired to be. Devil May Cry 4 was good, but it was really only half a game. Devil May Cry 5 was good but way too linear with little variety in the environments. DMC was developed by an American studio until a completely different continuity.

I'm waiting for the complete collection of the original 4 Devil May Cry to come on sale. God of War 3 and Bayonetta 2 bc I enjoyed a lot. I enjoyed the new bc God of War but I consider it a different genre.

I've never enjoyed any of the Devil May Cry games. The first one was not good even at release.
