This is a great chorus for the traveling balladeer...but it doesn't seem to match with the rest of the song.
quote:
Dead trees means wood and strings and wood mean guitars. Its talking about songs that reflect his life. So Lonesome I Could Cry and He Stopped Loving Her Today are in the first verse, the second verse refers to Copperhead Road and Mama Tried, and the the third verse is just a general reference to all the different jail songs.
Basically this guy screwed up his life and is sitting in jail reflecting on how these songs tell his life's story.
I totally get where he was trying to go...it just seems like the balladeer chorus doesn't match up with the rest of the song...
The verses of the song lend themselves more to the Tom Dooley or Knoxville Girl variety...while the chorus focuses on music rather than regret or consequences of the actions in the verses. I think there are two separate songs here.

Thanks, I like your song too. Yeah lol I've wrote a ton of songs but I'm kind of lacking in the voice and skill department so they just sit around.
It may be worth looking into finding a vocal coach to maybe refine your voice some and maybe finding your range and how to get the most out your voice.
Your picking on the other hand is obviously very solid. How long have you been playing?

I learned chords when I was like 9 but only got into really playing like maybe two years ago I guess.

Do you play with a metronome? Also, start plucking a low C and working your way up the scale while singing those notes to see where your range ends. Seems like you're first song is slightly out of your range. It might benefit the vocals if you dropped it down a half key or full key.
Great job. Takes some guts to post something and request feedback. Keep making music.
