Yep. I own a Sette 270Wi. Vario with brew burrs is much better for pour over or drip, but Sette is great for espresso.

Cook's Illustrated reviewed burr grinders in Jan. 2019.

quote:

We found several burr grinders we liked, with the Baratza Encore leading the pack. The darling of the coffee industry, this machine produces a very even grind, but we particularly appreciated its simple design and no-fuss grinding: Choose your grind setting, add your beans, and you're done. We also liked that it has 40 grind settings, giving coffee aficionados the ability to customize their cups.

Our Best Buy, the Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, is also intuitive, but it has just 16 settings and it doesn't work well when grinding coffee for a single cup.

It was interesting that one of the much-touted benefits of burr grinders is an even grind, compared to a blade grinder. They did blind taste tests repeatedly with 21 tasters, using the most and least uniformly burr ground beans as well as blade ground beans.

quote:

The verdict was surprising: Though we identified flavor differences in the batches of coffee, each made a good cup and tasters were split on which one they preferred. To verify these surprising results, we conducted this test three additional times. We also brought in coffee tasting experts, and they came to the same conclusion.

So maybe a cheaper blade grinder will do the job just as well.

Take that with a major grain of salt.

I'd love to know who the experts were and how they tested them and what grade coffee they used.

Baratza Encore here too. Only grinder we have ever owned, so we don’t have a ton of context. It seems to do the job capably, but the big thing for me is that it’s super easy to clean. That matters to me.

The Encore is a great low end entry level grinder. It's normally my recommendation for someone just getting into good coffee.

So how many ounces of beans do I need to grind to make 10 cups of coffee?

It's depends on what ratio you want to use and the strength of the Brew. I do pour-overs and 16:1 water to coffee ratio.

For a 30 gram brew, I pour 460ml of water.

For your 10oz, which is around 280ml..I'd use 19 grams of coffee and 285ml (Close to your 10z) of water. Start there, and if it's too strong go with a 16:1. If it's too weak, try 14:1.

Stay consistent with your ratios though. Also, water is a huge factor in coffee.

?? 10 cups of coffee is about 60 oz of water. For some reason, coffee is measured at 6 oz/cup. Water for cooking is measured at 8 oz / cup.

To make 10 cups of coffee in our Bunn 10A coffee maker, we use 5 scoops of grounds (~2 Oz) and 60 oz of water.

I would simply substitute the fresh ground beans for the bagged ground coffee we use now.
