He's apparently fallen off the face of the earth. He was on the roster for Eastern Florida State, but I guess he didn't make the spring roster.

Saw the Wilhite kid pitch in the playoffs last year. Throws moderately hard and keeps the ball down. Not sure he is LSU material as a Pitcher? But, CPM knows more than I do!

In the showcase event he went to recently he was sitting 92-94.

What happened to Gary Hymels son? He is a pitcher from CyFair I think. Met him last year. He was all LSU.
I'm sorry. I read he went to San Jac.
I met him at state championship in Round Rock. He had had the surgery and was recovering.

Project...Has Mainieri handed out a copy of the 2019 LSU baseball depth chart by positions. If you run across one would you please post it. Thanks in advance.

They don't really release a traditional depth chart like football does. But there is a ton of discussion about it in Adam's thread on the rant.

From the baseball America chat:

How close is Maurice Hampton to climbing into upper half of 1st round? What separates him from fellow HS OF Early and Greene at this point?

Carlos Collazo: Hampton just got started recently and homered in his first game. He's looked really good for a while now. Ealy might have the better toolset (speed, raw power, arm) but Hampton seems to have the better offensive approach. Both still have high upside and are probably going to fit closer to each other on our next update. Ealy has some approach issues to iron out and is the bigger risk to pursue football based on what I'm hearing.

RHP Jimmy Lewis (2019) from Texas has risen to 46 on FanGraphs board. He even jumped Rece Hinds. He's pitching well, but he's also got a teammate (Brock Baty, Texas commit) that is a projected 1st rounder. That means he's always going to be throwing in front of scouts. His stock is rising quickly. I know nothing of his signability though, so I can't comment in that direction.

My belief is that when players go to Perfect Game WWBA in Jupiter, FL the fall of their senior year, they are trying to increase their draft value since there are few schools there but a ton of pro scouts. Both Jimmy Lewis and Connor Phillips did that and did increase draft visibility/value. Lewis has indeed jumped a lot.
Thomas Wilhite was not there, but did attend another showcase recently and threw well (Project, I think you mentioned that in a previous post). And his latest Perfect Game ranking jumped considerably.
All I am saying is that looking at the list of incoming commits and their projected draft spots, I think its possible that 4 of the 5 RHP commits could take the draft.

Espino and Hinds will never set foot on campus. We will be fortunate if we get Doughty, Travinski and Hampton.

Perfect Game is showing a new 2019 LHP commit from Georgia for us. I'm having trouble confirming it though.

Yeah, this one is weird. PG has no data for him: no speed, tournament participation, etc. And it says he is from Acworth, GA which is near the Lakepoint complex where most of the big PG summer events are held.

2019 INF Signee Collier Cranford from Zachary recently had Tommy John surgery. Pretty sure this means he won't be playing in the Great Lakes league like he was scheduled to do. I wonder how it affects his availability for next season.

Has anyone ever seen Christian Cairo play and is he a draft risk? the clips I've seen he looks like a polished defender and seems he could be really good.

He appears to be a draft risk. He's highly rated on a few different sites that are pretty good with draft rankings. Now, he's not so highly rated that he'll be mentioned in mock drafts so I don't know that we'll be able to figure out his signability.

But if he makes it to campus, I'd expect him to compete for a starting spot in the infield.

I think we have a good chance at getting him to campus. His brother is on the team currently and he's close with a couple other commits in the class.

I could see him being the starting 3rd baseman for 3 years here. He can play multiple positions at a high level though. He could probably even catch. But I don't think we will ask him to do that.
