So what if these bowl games weren’t “meaningless”?

As it stands right now if you’re not in the top 4, you just go to a bowl game.
What if the bowls were all playoff games?
Top 25 - (skip all these conference championship games and go straight to the playoffs. No 1 seed has a bye until final 4.

First week in December Round 1 - 12 games (use these crappier bowls for that or just play at one of the schools)

Second week December Round 2- 6 games (the less crappier but still very irrelevant bowls used here)

Third week December Round 3 - 3 games (NY6 caliber bowls here)

Last week December / Jan 1st - Round 4 - No 1 team plays No 4, No 2 plays no 3 - 2 games (Use these bowls / locations as they already are)

Second week January- Championship game.(Rotates like it has been)

Now everyone playing on a Top 25 Team has a shot and the games actually matter.

It would be bigger than the March Madness IMO, and the player attrition rate would be hampered significantly.

Extending the playoffs in order to keep guys playing is a poor motivation.

They aren't meaningless.

They are the biggest games of the year for every team not in the playoffs.

That’s not the “real” motivation, it’s the product that results from playing for something that isn’t meaningless.

That makes the regular season completely meaningless. There are consistently 4 loss team in the top 25 at the end of every season.

It's for sure meaningless. At least for a team gunning for titles like LSU. A bowl game has no impact on your chase for a national or conference championship. Thus=meaningless. The motivation is pretty much all internal.
