Hey all.

My phone is my lifeblood, I am shut down without it. After a week of getting three flat tires at once (thanks people who can't secure loads) and a major termite colony in my workshop I now have a brick phone.

So I tried the simulated battery pull (as you can't do a real battery pull)
I get the start up screen then it goes back to black.

If I try to do safe mode I get the "recovery booting" message and then black screen.

I pulled the sim card and now get a screen that says "an unauthorized software was flashed to this ROM" which isn't true. lol.

So I have a brick. I need to power it off to do a bootloader but it won't power off. The battery is at 100% (or was) so it'll be days before it owers off.

I was going to tear the phone apart to unplug the battery and plugit back in, but that seems a pain.

Is there anything I am missing here?
This is a flustrating week

You can't do a hard reset?

Are you familiar with flashing ROMs?

You would most likely need to ODIN back to stock just to see.

If not, it could be possible hardware failure somewhere

I'm pretty technical.

I couldn't get it to go into recovery. I looked online and saw they have a "jig" that forces it into Odin.
I saw they made this "jig" by bridging pin "4" and pin "5" on the usb (red and yellow wire if standard) with a 300k Ohm resistor. I didn't have a 300k but I had a single 100k, a 75k and a bunch of 10k and 1ks. So I got a bread board, made a 300k resitor and got it into download mode.

If I press down, it just goes back to the black screen and blue light. If I press up it says "download do not turn off target".
After 20 minutes of that I reset it again.

So I am not sure where to go next.

I've read the number one cause of this issue is motherboard failure. i'm kind of scared.

It potentially could be hardware failure.

But if you can get it into download mode, then the possibility of using ODIN is there. XDA should have a forum for your device based on carrier. Some have a one-click solution, others may have a step by step guide usually pinned at the top of the board.

It's worth a shot to try and see

got a firmware, tried Odin just now and it failed. Battery died on phone yet not recognizing charging cable, yet the computer sees it.

I have never used Odin before so I have to figure that out. All tutorials only load the "ap" line it seems and I loaded all four lines.

I'm going to reactivate my old S5 right now, then come back later and mess with it. (used to be you could just swap sim cards, now they are all different sizes.

failed every Odin flash.

Couldn't do a system restore. At this point I think it's a bad Motherboard. Just bought an unlocked MB for $39 and a new battery. Now to take this thing apart without breaking the $275 screen. lol
I went back to my S5, which is a better vacation phone (interchangble batteries) so I'll rock the 2014 phone for now.

Yeah if you can't flash via ODIN, then there's something internally wrong.

The good news is that the motherboard is relatively cheap and Samsung phones are generally pretty easy to navigate once opened up. The bad news is trying not to break the glass while opening it up lol
