Fake videos? Computer program generates eerily realistic fake footage

Christopher Carbone By Christopher Carbone | Fox New

quote:

A new computer program can manipulate a video so that its subject mirrors the movements of someone else in another video. In this case, images of Russian President Vladimir Putin are altered to match those of former President Barack Obama. (HYEONGWOO KIM ACM TRANSACTIONS ON GRAPHICS 2018)

quote:

We are all aware of the ongoing battle against fake news—which frequently includes made-up text and doctored images—but a new computer program can manipulate video in a way that’s disconcertingly convincing. The program can alter video in such a way that the person on-screen mirrors the movements and expressions of someone in a different video.

quote:

These video forgeries are “astonishingly realistic,” Adam Finkelstein, a computer scientist at Princeton University not involved in the work, told Science News.

If that software is supposed to mirror the facial animations of another person than that software is crap because it doesn't look the same at all.

I believe this is called "Deep Fake" software, and it's been around for a year or so. Reddit banned it, somehow. (Not a Reddit guy, but I remember an article making this point.)

No, it's not realistic enough to pass close scrutiny. Two things, though:

1. Yet.

2. Low information voters will believe whatever confirms their biases.

Its popular with people putting celebrities heads' on porn actors. Or so I've heard.
