The source of the NRA’s power

It isn’t money. They are one of the smaller lobbyists in terms of dollars spent.
It isn’t media control. The MSM has been against them for as long as I remember.
Their power comes from millions of passionate members who are scattered around the country who will vote their issue and millions more non-members who are supportive of the cause. Most groups have to bus people to the polls to vote for their issue. NRA members will be standing at the door when it opens to vote.
The echos of the NRA membership and supporters throwing the Dems out of Congress in 1992 after the AWB are still heard in DC for sure.

Get to the polls in November.

The NRA membership is not really that big.. last I heard was about 7 million. There are hundreds of millions of guns out there, owned by many who are not NRA members, but sympathize with their mission. These are the people who vote.

Their members are loud and active. NRA phone banks are powerful tools in politics.

When you compare the number of estimated gun owners (80 million) to the number of NRA members you are right, but compared the other organizations 5 million members is a lot.

This is what anti-gun folks don't get.
The NRA doesn't spend in the top 20 lobbying in Washington.
they don't need to. They have passionate members and for the record there are tons of democrats in the NRA.
They try to spin this as Democrats vs Republicans but it isn't true. This is why they always lose this battle. This is why even with the House, Senate and Presidency, they didn't enact any serious gun control laws under Obama.
There are more than a few democrats on this site that would start shooting if they came around to take guns away.
Hell, I don't own a gun, but the last round of gun control talk made me a 5 year member of the NRA.
