This is why you don't have knee jerk reactions after 1 series

It is completely possible that Jordans go back to popping up and Hess can go back to having a 30 ERA. Just relax and let the first part of the season go by. CPM knows more than we do.

I'll admit I've said negative things about the Jordans in the past (mostly Beau) but those dudes get on base.

So its only ok to over react if a player does bad in one game? It doesn't work in reverse correct?

People were calling CPM (a top notch college baseball coach) and Hess (the best pitcher on LSU's staff....by far) out after 1 game. Why can't he call people out when things are reversed?

I'm not the one pissed. Hess rebounded with a solid start, just like I predicted he would. And LSU is winning 13-2. What do I have to be pissed about?

The sad thing is that I honestly expect Hess to end up better than he was tonight this year.

100 pitches in 6 innings isnt historically great for friday night pitchers at LSU and I expect Hess to get up to par.

However even if this is his baseline that is absolutely fine and we will be ok

Exactly. Gilbert got the Friday night start for being a Senior. He has never had Friday night starter stuff. Hess is the best pitcher on this staff, and it's not even close. He is going to be the guy you want going against Friday starters, and nobody else can come close. He will have a great year.

In the MLB, he may be a set-up/closer guy. But in college baseball, he is a starter. No matter what school he is playing for.

i think he is still trying to find a happy medium between going all out as a closer and holding back a bit as a starter.

He doesn't depend on just a 97 mph fastball like the retards here think. His other pitches are top notch as well. Without a Lange/Poche/Walker in front of him, Hess is a starter. It was a luxury to have him in the closer role last year. He wasn't there because that's where he belongs.

I disagree. Hess started several games last year. His effectiveness dropped as he reached the middle innings. And this was against mid-week competition. Hess was not LSU starter material last year. That doesn’t mean he won’t be this year.
