I really want to not be ugly. Lol. But it honestly appears like you have never followed recruiting before and you get your info from the rant. In 2014, we lost Cam Robinson. That's really it. We passed on Hootie for Jamal Adams. We weren't after Cam Sims. In 2016, the totality of the players that Bama got that we were after in state was Shyheim Carter. But we signed 3 DBs higer ranked than him anyway.
The sheer volume matters much less than losing an in-state position of dire need (OT, strange it seems to be a dire need for years now) that started immediately as a freshman and is NFL quality. It's those recruits that get away that "shift the balance of power". Not so much Cam Sims we lose. We weren't willing to go too far for Cam Simms, and we had a great backup plan for Hootie. There is no feasible back up plan for a Cam Rob.
Noting, we don't lose all those by far. Saban, or anyone else in particular, isn't able to get the "pick of the litter", in any area. But both coaches, so far, have lost some important singular players every year... the key being... when they are at that time a position of need. Cam Rob is one for Miles. Akers is one for CEO. In both those examples there wasn't an equitable replacement. Those hurt.

Not real sure what your main point is in this post other than we're on track compared to previous classes and should be ok. I agree that star rating don't mean there always the best players but the majority of the time....they are. Coach O just needs to keep putting players on the high round draft board and start competing for championships and they will come. Hope he finishes strong.

I believe the star ratings, as often stated, are relative to where (as in what state) the players are playing, because of the hype, or lack thereof, for said state. This info just supports that idea even more. It is more evidence to why LSU has to work hard to get the good LA players to stay home. Tom Osborne built a legend on a strong walk-on program which benefitted the university and many local players.

In 2012 class Miles lost Landon Collins to Saban. Replaced him with Corey Thompson. In 2014, he lost his he top OT in the country who was an LSU lean early on until Stud slept on his recruitment. Then Speedy Noil went to aTm and Gerald Willis went to Florida. Both were head cases and bust but Miles didn’t pass on them. 5 of the top 10 went out of state. Miles didn’t pass on Hootie Jones until after Jamal Adams committed. Adams showed interest after Jones went elsewhere. I agree the Cam Sims was never on LSUs radar.
As for LSUs losses to Bama last year, Buggs is the one that hurt no doubt. The staff replaced the 2 linebackers we lost with as good or better out of state linebackers, so like the guys you mentioned, they were a wash. Last years class was solid minus the loss of Buggs. He ended up with a new ride after committing to Bama.

I honestly didn’t think I had to articulate how large of a loss Cam Robinson was. He started as a freshman at Bama and was a top 10 National recruit.

If I remember correctly, O offered Etienne it long after becoming interim coach. He lost out on Akers but he was a Mississippi kid. Etienne was in love with Clemson by mid season. O should have been on him hard from the beginning. He may end up being a huge loss.
