Looking for a welder for a series of small jobs. I am looking to hire a welder on a temporary basis. What should I expect to pay hourly for his services?

As awful of a response as "it depends on what you're welding" is,
It depends on what you're welding and where you're welding it. Structural? Pipe? At a house? On a job site? Is there a pipeline going in near you? If so expect to pay more.

What type of welding? SMAW, FCAW, GTAW?

All depends on the type of welding and the material you want welded. TIG pipe welders are making a premium. Structure welders are making good money, but not like a pipe crew.
