Alcatraz Night Tour

Booked a night tour with Alcatraz Cruises for my trip out west in a couple weeks. Anyone else ever taken this tour or a similar one? Was it worth the $40?

i paid about that much for the day tour. only thing is during the day from Alcatraz you get a phenomenal view of the bay

Day tour was awesome. And I want to go back. Night tour should be just as good if not better. Cool and spooky to be on that island at night. Only thing is that you won't have a photo opportunity of the SF skyline or of the nature on the island

Thanks for the feedback. The tour starts at 3:50 so it's still daylight. Hopefully I can get some nice views.

Did the day tour in spring and it was great. Be sure to do the audio guided tour as it gives you a lot of good info and leads you through the prison. It's narrated by old guards and prisoners and they have some cool stories. You can pause, fast forward, and rewind so it is very user friendly.

Did the day tour when I went out to SF on a high school trip. Really cool, so I can imagine the night one being good as well.

Audio tour is the bomb diggity. So well done. In fact, I now look to do the audio tour at places that have it because that one was so well done.

I've done both, day tour is awesome, night tour is better. Both have amazing views, the night skyline of San francisco is amazing from Alcatraz. In the night tour you aren't allowed to roam around the island as you are in the day tour, you are pretty much led from the dock to the prison. They did seem to have more docents giving presentations in the night tour, but that might just be the fact that I did the tours years apart. Both use the same audio tour, but night just felt much spookier and had less people due to the fact that there is only one trip out there each night. Dress warm.

This is the best advice...like hat gloves and coat warm if you want to be comfortable. The fog and wind will be rolling in late in the day and you don't want to be a shivering tourist.

It's been very cold this winter, on the bay it will be freezing

Lady said the audio tour is included in the night tour. They are also smaller and get a personal guide throughout the island.
