The underrated Mighty Joe Young was also released in 1949
This was the first feature film to which Ray Harryhausen contributed stop-motion animation effects.

Yep, and The Third Man tonight
Learned last night that John Wayne was offered the role of Willie Stark. He turned it down because he thought ATKM was an unpatriotic movie.

1974 breh.
Godfather Part II
Chinatown
Mirror
Ali: Fear Eats the Soul
The Conversation
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Phantom of the Paradise
You had four of the greatest acting performances of all-time in one year: Pacino in GF Part II, Nicholson in Chinatown, Hoffman in Lenny and Rowlands in Woman Under the Influence. If you look at the directors, you see Coppola still making great films, Scorsese coming into his own, Cassavetes, Tarkovsky and Fassbender at the peak of their powers plus a number of the best actors and actresses of this generation were born in 1974 such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Joaquin Phoenix. 1974 really was a truly blessed year for cinema.

I'm not sure that is relevant to this thread, but 74 was definitely a great year for film.
