Understandable, especially being that we don't know what a true cover LB looks like first hand.
Edit:
Okay, now that I realize how very true that is I need to cry.
Last good one we had was Vilma for a few years and I couldn't tell you before that. Fujita was decent too.
Hell thinking about it, last time we had a ball hawking safety and a coverage LB something special happened.
Yeah, been one of the things I've been drumming on about for going on 3 years now. We need a true WLB/WILL that can play the pass and the run. Don't need another explosive pass rusher at LB, we have that with Junior and Victor Butler (SLB/SAM). A good WLB is a nightmare for QBs, they can create false openings in zones, lock up your tight end on a crosser, have the speed to spy a QB and keep him from torching you, and (my personal favorite) sitting on the end of an outside running lane to maul the ball carrier. Now, if that ball carrier is Shaun Alexander, I would not recommend it.
As far as Haralson goes, I agree with the comment that he is a depth player. Even with pretty lethargic LB play last year, Haralson only played, what, 40-50% of the snaps? If he was "the guy" he would have been in there for the vast majority of the snaps last year. Just saying.

With Haralson, he played very sparingly at the beginning of the season and didn't start seeing heavy use until the San Fran game.
He started getting a ton more snaps(as did Humber) in the last few weeks of the season.
To me that says those two took a while to get fully acclimated but once they did they got their chance.
I see them being more than just fluff going forward.

we REALLY need a cover LB. Like bad.
Couldn't agree more. While not as awful, Lofton and Hawthorne are starting to look like the new Jenkins and Harper.
